Default Ls1 Hp

I have a book that says my 98 Z28 LS1 has 305 hp... I got my hands on a LS1 out of a 99 SS rated at 320 hp ... Now, i know that Chevy will lie about hp but the very same book says that these ENGs have the same cam so where does the extra hp come from ???? It better not be from the hood..LOL

the LS1 motor is underrated from the factory, depends on the car its in basically is the number you will see, as you have noticed.

To not cause a complete ruckus heres your basic truth:

The LS1 in a Z28 and SS are the exact same engine nothing different.
"Ramair doesnt really account for much unless your going really fast"
that being said how else could anyone ever think to market a spoiler, rim package, and hood package without changing a horsepower number? wise choice chevy fooled many.

Only big diff I would see is an SLP optioned SS

in a nutshell numbers sell. absolutely no real noticeable horsepower difference. But congrats on crankin out 190,000 miles on your Z28

the SS got a slightly better exhaust didn't it?

that could account for some of the "advertised" hp increase.

but basically it was attributed to the hood and exhaust...

It's just a marketing game. The motors are identical. Don't worry about 10-15hp and start MODDING ALREADY!

All LS1 engines are just like Americans ... they were all created equal ... the HP numbers published by GM are BS...just figure that all of them are 350 HP ... not that that realy means anything anyway ..

If they have a problem with the truth then they are the dumb diehard ss guys..

I have seen stock F body cars put down more HP on the dyno than a stock Vette..the IRS uses a little more HP on its way to the wheels in the Vette.

Phuch the slp book all LS1s are the phuchin same ... end of story ... I work for Chevy..

PS Ed Hamberger (owner of slp) is an old drag racing buddy.

It was bound to happen I was wondering when the ss dumb squad was going to show up.

yes they may be the same engines, but no two engines will produce the same numbers....its all an average....a very tight average at that. it is however believed that ls1 engines are very underated...by as much as 40-50 hp

You mean my SS doesn't have 15 more HP than a Z28?

I thought only ricers got extra HP from hoods and spoilers?

From Mass Air Meter to the Converters, every F-Body LS1 is the same (within it's model year). True, Air boxes, a Ram Air hood and a different muffler might give a 3-5 HP edge, but nothing that is outside the range of dyno repeatability.

Hell, I'd be suprised to see much more than than on even the 345HP SLP optioned cars.

Im going to agree that Z28 vs SS the power is the same.....UNLESS...it had substantial SLP power items?...I dont know how many options there were, but for instance in my case it came with SLP dual dual exhaust, I am assuming worth a couple horses, but nothing to mark it as 15hp better. Like said earlier...dont worry about it. Just mod away..

The war between a Z28 and a SS.
I bet the Z28 would be 0.0000000000000000009 slower in the 1/4 mile because the Z28 emblem is bigger, therefore it weighs more.

Engines are the same, basically everything is the same.

Its kind of like the Firebird WS6 and the Firebird Trans Am, same motors.
