Default 228R or MTI R1

Alright so ive been researching h/c combos lately. I was pretty much decided on PRC 2.5 heads with a 228R 112lsa. But i got in contact with the guy i bough my ls6 intake from to ask about the heads he had. The heads are gone but he has a brand new, never used, mti r1 cam .232/.236 dur .575/.578 lift 114lsa and he said he'd let it go for 300 or so. He then told me he has a buddy who has some zo6 heads he'd let go for pretty cheap. If i got em i would have them ported.

Should i stick to my original plans or take this deal? Anyone around here runnin these cams that could help me would be great.

The more the read up the more opinions your going to get and become even more confused. Then someone will say anuther cam you didnt think of and bam your guessing yourself again.

Do yourself a favor order the 228r on a 112 lsa

Default I liked the R1

I had the R1 in my '00 C5. With the addition of LS6 Heads/Intake/UD Pulley and Dynamaxx Headers I made 420 RWHP/358 RWTQ.

I was very pleased with the setup.

Those are two very different setups...IMO stick with the 2.5s and 228R.Are you talking LS6 heads or 5.3s? I was going to go with the 5.3s and the 228R but decided on a custom cam instead. By the way...TSP has just released a new 5.3 head called the R version and has 2.055 intake valves along with a little tweaking but they look to be a very nice head for a really decent price.

Yea stick with power under the curve is my opinion.

PRC/228 combo. put 2-4 degrees advance in it and mill them as much as you can. whatever TSP suggests without having to flycut.

The R1 is on old school slow ramping XE lobes. The PRC's breath good til .600 lift, why cheat yourself with a cam that doesn't lift that high?

That is the same combo i want to get next winter, PRC 5.3 2.5's and a 228r. Does anyone have a dyno graph or some numbers of what power this set up makes.

Yeah i think im gonna go with the PRC/228 combo. Ive never heard a bad thing about it. Id love to see some dyno sheets if you have the combo or just one of the 2 things. Post gains before and after if you know them.

ls1toy, how much did it cost you shipped to your door? Did you call them first or just order online?

When I wam going to have the heads shipped here to California the shipping was around $50 for UPS ground, the cam shouldnt add too much more weight.

I bought it from Jon over the phone because I needed some extra stuff as well such as .040 headgasket, push rod, ls6 ported oil pump, and arp head stud.

cams was 369.99 and heads was 1199.99. Shipping was like 40-50 bucks
