are LS1 and LS6 pistons different?
A friends 01 WS6 had a pistong that melted part of the ringland. So I got a LS1 piston from someone for free but noticed they have a couple things that look a little different. I know they are the same bore but is there a weight difference or any reason why I shouldn't run the LS1 piston with the others being LS6?

Or more the point any difference in pistons between 2000 and 2001 LS1's? Not sure if the block in mine is a LS6 or not but IIRC it would've been LS1 internals anyways. The spare piston we picked up is from a 00 LS1 Camaro SS.

They are a different mixture of alloys. Both are hypereutectic, and both made by Mahle. the LS6 is a little lighter, and a little stronger than the LS1. I would try to keep sets together to avoid any balancing issues.

It's not an LS6 engine though but may be an LS6 block (Forgot to check the number on the block). They're both LS1 internals but the 00 SS piston looks like it has some differences from my 01 LS1 piston.
Main question is if the 00 LS1 pistons changed at all in 01.

it almost looks like it might be an LS6 piston!? here's a picture I found of a 2001 LS6 piston. If you look at the skirts and sides, the 01 looks more like the LS6 here than the 2000 LS1.
