Default MS4 cam

I want to buy a cam for my 98 WS6. I've only seen the MS4 in cars with 6.0 blocks, but i have the stock Ls1 block. I dont know much about the cam, how is the everyday driveability? power top end or low? Any info you guys could give me would help. And i wouldnt have any problem putting it in my WS6 would i?

It was made for the LS1 at first! Its one of the biggest cam you can run on your stock LS1 without notching the pistons(depending on the setup). A lot of plp are making crazy power and with a good tune, they DDrive it. Go to the dyno section, and youll see tons of result. Thunder racing has some crazy cam too

I've heard that the MS4 can be bad in slow moving traffic. It will run low RPMs when just inching forward. Anyone know anything about this. I mean this car is my DD but there is a lot of fast f-bodies and supras my friends drive so i want to be able to keep up with them and i know the MS4 can make some good power thats what got me drawn towards it. lol

I personally wouldn't want it in one you dd. I have it in mine, and it does drive great, doesn't idle low (1,000 rpms all the time) only bucks below 1300 and only on occasion. But I drive a civic everyday, so on a daily basis i perfer something smooth and and easy, the ms4 is anything but smooth, it shakes the whole car.... and it scares most other cars. Nobody will race me around here just cause of how my car sounds. Its an awesome cam and I love mine, but i have only drove the car 600 miles in the past 8 months so that will show you how much i actually drive it. But don't get me wrong, my car could be dd'ed and has been before when i wrecked the civic. Drove it for 3 months straight and didn't have the first problem. It would be up to you as to define dd friendly! It will take a good tune thought i will tell you that.

bigger is not always better.

you can make more power down low, and still pretty respectible power up top with smaller cams than the MS4.

and you're daily driver duty will thank you.

look at some of the low LSA cams with the low 23x duration and ~.600" lift....they'll make a great cam.

and your choices on heads later will be better without having to flyut the pistons.

more info on your car would help

go with the MS3 or smaller. you don't have any info on your setup in your sig. Is your car A4 or M6? Supporting mods? ETC.

Sorry i didnt realize that info would make a difference in this case lol. It's a 98 M6 and will have a set of Pacesetter off road headers and off road Y pipe with a borla exhaust. MTI lid. More then likely a LS6 intake manifold too....I also have spray sittin around but its not installed yet.

It's a topend cam.So stop and go traffic will be a pain in the ***. Hell I spent a week tuning ine in stopa and go Dallas traffic 2 summers ago (118 intake temps come to mind). But once it is tuned it is a fun cam. Just as is the other larger grinds out there.

I agree with teke, you don't need a big cam to make power. the ms4 is a top end cam so you won't get that power until the rpms get high. Also you'd need to get that tune right or you're going to get bucking and surging. I don't know how hard it is to tune that out on a ms4 but for a DD It's better to get something your going to be comfortable driving.
I was in the same situation as you ( wanting an ms4) I have now realized my goals. check out some other cams like the torquer2 or similar. just my .02

I have MS4 in my car, and i idles around 1000-1100 rpm and
bucks below 2000 rpm.

I have mail order tune because there are no tuners where I live :/

I dont DD the car, and I would not recommend that either.

But for full throttle, I love this cam

I never had a problem out of my A3 stalled TA. It wasn't even tuned and I still never had any issues in stop and go traffic. It was a fun cam, and definitely got alot of attention sitting at lights lol.

i would suggest consulting patrick g about cam selection. i believe i recall reading a thread you created awhile back asking about big cams. not a good choice, especially when the new lobes and 230* duration cams are making the same peak numbers and much much more under the curve. you need a good tuner for a cam like the ms4, no compromises. otherwise you will hate the car and blame it on the cam...which happens a lot more than it should.

consult patrick g for a cam. end of story.

The second is an lt1 on 150 shot with full exhaust and drag wheels. BTW i spun like crazy on each launch.
