Default can you go over kill on springs?

I haver a ls6 with 241's making little over 550 rwhp on a sts. I'm starting to piece together what I want for my build. I have 918's in the heads now, must be the old pac springs cause they still holding up after 2+ years of boosting.

anyway I plan to get a boost friendly 370, with 317 heads. I was told that I could just swap over my 918's. however I think I would rather just get new ones. can you go over kill with your spring set-up? I know that being to strong is never a bad thing when it comes to fuel and your bottom end. but will have say a pac 1518 set-up in 317's heads be a bad idea?

I'm looking to have around 600whp for normal driving, then crank it up at the track with some better gas. I know I'll have to get a better cam once I try going for more then 600.

sorry don;t know alot about springs I guess.

thanks

You can go overkill on springs. The thing is with some common sense it's really hard to do. Standard LS1 springs are 1.290 inches in diameter. Trying to find a really strong / high pressure spring in that size is going to be rather expensive. Once you really get up there in spring pressure you can have some problem with pushrods bending, wiping cam lobes, and issues with lifters. It's just common sense to avoid those. Most people like to use a good set of dual springs. Comp 921s, Patriot Golds, PRCs, etc.. Just choose one of those sets and you'll be fine.

PAC 1518 is a direct drop in good to .650 lift.

$265 plus delivery isnt that much money when compared to the cost of a Comp 921. The PAC 1518 is a direct drop in replacement good to .650 lift. No need to change seats seals or retainers.
I stock them ship same day as the order gets received

will those work good with a turbo cam,317 heads, and sround 800 or crank power? the whole reason I want to do a built bottom end, is to have a car like I got now but not have to worry about anything breaking.

Yes the 1218 will work fine. You need to select to correct spring though for the lift of the cam you run. If your cam is around or over .600 lift you need the 1518's.

I think your fine, I dont see a need if someone is runing a double to just swap them out. Unless you got valve float and are haviing issues I dont see a reason to swap.
