Found a crack in the block!!!

Default Found a crack in the block!!!

Upon tearing the engine down for a lifter noise, I found a small crack in the lower right hand corner of the block. Now my question is this, would you run it till it blows and replace the engine then or pull the engine now and have it repaired? This really ******* sucks cause a blower was next on the mod list!!

Im trying to resize the image so i can share it. I can make cars go fast but can't seem to resize a fn photo!!

the crack is from the center of the bolt hole straight down

i would not especially if you are going to go FI. it should be fine but every time you lay your foot into it you will cringe. plus, i would hate for you to start loosing oil.

no, i just realized where its at, the cap will deflect just thousands of an inch and could cause serious damage to the rotating assembly.

i say replace it now u might use some of the rotating assemblys.

Replace now. Sell all of the good parts from your working rotating assembly to put toward your new forged motor.

Plus it would suck to have it break while youre out and have to pay for a tow.

Replace it now! you dont want it to damage anything else when it goes. Not only that, your going to have to pull it out again. just do it now.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm toying with doing a lq9 swap now. Open to other suggestions as well though.

Pretend you never saw it.....With the 6-bolt main caps youll never develop any real problems from it. The side bolts are for location mainly and minimal for strength...

for all you know its been there for 50k+ miles...ive seen a couple motors with similar type cracks...but they have 100k+ miles and who knows how long they had been there.

Thats probably what I'll do. Run it till she coughs up her internals and replace em with something bigger and better. If it does take a **** the only thing that I will want to salvage is my cam, pushrods, and rockers anyways. wish me luck
