Thumbs down Bone head engine builder built my motor and it made 5 whole passes.

Hey guys,

Well here is the story. I bought a car on here last year that was built by a shop in the mid west that will remain nameless for now. Anyway the motor had very few miles on it and after i got it and had it tuned i made a few changes (headers, th350, gears) and carried it to the track. It made 5 passes before it blew up. After Johnathon at Tick Performance ( sponser and great guys to deal with ) got the motor apart for me, he found a few things wrong. The windage tray was bolted up with no spacers and the rod bolts had wore a groove in the windage tray. It had spun the #4 rod bolt and one of the cam bearings had spun. The cam had to be pried out it was so tight. There were a few other things wrong but those were bad enough.

Anyway the only good news is it made damn good power and ran pretty good times considering it was blowing up. So while it is down i am going to make some changes and try to get some more power out of it. Right now it around 11.75 to 1 on compression running pump gas so i will bump the compression up as much as i can and run race gas. The heads are Patriot Stage 3 with 72 cc heads. It has 208 intake and 1.60 ehxaust valves. It has a 4.040 bore and a 4.125 " stroke. The cam is 250 257 628/645 on a 114 + 2. I am going to change the cam because im not taking any chances with that one being messed up. So does anyone have any good suggestions for a cam to go with and how much to mill my heads? Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

get a custom grind - the only way to go. i used to use Ed C for my ford stuff, but seems like pat G, predator Z and a few others would be excellent people to contact if you really want the most from your combo. just my opinion - ive felt the difference in an off the shelf cam that "should" work, and a custom grind that DID work more than once.

Kinda scary....think about how much (or how little) attention to detail went into the rest of the build?

Looks like your starting over at this point anyway....probably for the best.

Good luck getting her back up and running again!

Thanks Tony. I really would love to put a set of your new heads on there and see what kind of power i can pick up. I dont think they will be out before i get it back together though. I glad i have someone i trust building it now, atleast i can sleep good at night knowing it will be put back right.
