I helped a friend do a cam swap a few months back, and his cam looked the exact same way. His was cam was stock and the lifters looked O.K.

If I remember that thread it was valve float.

Question for the OP, did you dyno the car? The dyno will show a valve train issue. Also, how many miles on the springs? Have you re-measured their force curve? That may be another thing to look at as weakened springs would not control the valve train.

Default Cam

I bought a used cam fom a board member that looked like this:

well maybe not this bad but definetly similar wear and he wondered why I didnt want to " go ahead and run it" lets see , Hmmmm 4-5k in the motor -- 150$ questionable cam??? I'll pass on that!
you would think that they would know how to make a roller cam live. I thought that was the benefit of a roller - reduced wear and friction

Well here is what comp told me last:

Yeah I got them. That can be caused by several different things. Heat and
lack of oil are some major things could be wrong seat pressure. I don't
really know to be exact. You have some awesome pictures thank you I can use
them. I sent them to the warranty department. I want to know what they say.
Thanks again.

You need to verify the spring seat and over the nose forces by removing and measuring the spring for vs. displacement. That will confirm how much the springs have changed. You may find that over time the springs have weakened and even though you were OK new, you may not be now such that at high RPM you were losing valve control. Other thing you can do is have someone check the cam for its hardening.

Comp Did not get back to me so I took the cam to the machine shop and they said it was caused by Valave Spring Bind. Not sure how that could be the heads were stock and had the 918 springs with 7.4 Hardend push rods. Anyway now we know.
