Default I have an oil pressure problem...

Ok guys this is a bit weird and I need some help.

The engine is new, o-ring is installed correctly on my ls6 oil pump. all of that is new as well.

Car warms up has about 18-25psi at idle depending on if tis warmed up. Normally get about 38-42psi while driving and this includes the upper rpm range.

However here is where I get worried...

Whenever I put the car in reverse, my oil pressure drops down way low to the point that the check guages light will flash. but if I rev the car up a bit the oil pressure comes right back up. The car has a 228R cam thats untuned and does surge so im gonna guess that may have something to do with it.

There is plenty of oil, it never drops down to the red at any time other than while backing up. Im using 10-40 oil and the normal short filter. Car isn't down on power at all and no noises period.

I ordered a new oil pressure sending unit yesterday and I hope that it's the culprit (stocker with 94k on it).

What do yall think?

check the spacer you put on between the pump and the block on the driver side. I think you have it upside down. It will still produce oil pressure flipped the wrong ay, but LOW. New BLUE o-ring installed to, right?

actually no ones tuned it yet. it has a mail order tune from pcmforless to get it by but im gonna go to EPP for a dyno tune when I have the funds.

I want to say im 110% positive that spacer is correct because I did check all of that a few times as I noticed it could be flipped as well. Yes blue O ring came with the pump. However the only time I have low pressure is in reverse. all other times its within the normal limits or at least from the ones i've seen and rode in.

how close is he to indy? EPP is 2 1/2 hours from here and speed inc is 3 1/2

oh wow hes only like an hour away just looked him up. does he do the dyno tuning? This is a heads/cam/3000 stall car so its not really stock anymore and needs a really good tune

Well, my issue ended up being the cam retainer plate. The gasket was pretty much gone and the bolts were all loose. As soon as I replaced that, the oil pressure was back to normal.

I'll add that to my list of possibilities but I dont have low oil pressure all the time. It only drops down low when I put the car in reverse

I am pretty sure that cam has 2* of advance ground in.

I hope you get it figured out I know you have out a lot of work in that car I would consider your OP in the bottom of the safe range and not at all acceptable for a fresh motor
