Default What cams are you 383 stroker guys running?

I have been toying with the idea of building up a little street/strip "weekend" car. I have access to a 383 rotating assembly pretty cheap, and I have some ported stock heads that flow ~305 @ .600 IIRC. I want to keep a reasonable idle (<1000rpm). The compression works out to be ~11:1, and the car is an A4 with a SS3600. The car will also have most of the bolt ons.

I will likely consult a cam expert when actually designing a camshaft, but I was wanting to see what some of you 383ers were running, what kind of HP/ETs you were running.

Any recent 383 builds? Since I bought the C6, I have been out of the heavy modding game, so I am a little bit out of the loop with LS1 builds of late, so any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, Shawn

I'm running a Comp 238/240 on 112. No numbers yet but seat on pants feels GOOD. Wish I would have went alittle bigger. Maybe MS4 or custom.

To match my AFR 205 heads with my 383 build, I went ahead with AFR's cam grind 234/238. 480rwhp and 440 torque.

The car is a little tempermental to drive, but not too bad. For a daily driver, this is a big enough cam for me.

I was running a Futral 239/243 cam with Dart 205 heads making 486 rwhp 475 rwtq. I am waiting to get some new numbers with my bigger cam, and better flowing heads.

Why bigger? Is the cam too "tame"? How is the idle and driveability? A4 or M6?

How do you define tempermental? From what I've read, the 230-ish cams are generally considered pretty "tame" for a 383.

What is your new cam? Why the switch?

Thanks all, Shawn

using a 238/240 on a 112, i made 473/441 through an untouched LS6 intake and stock throttle body, when i save some money im looking to a ported FAST for some bigger numbers

The new cam is a 244 250 on a 112 with more lift. The new cam is more for the new heads I have. I have Larry Meaux ported Ls6 heads that flow 320 cfm all the way to .900 lift.

My car is not a DD. The motor runs so smooth you cant tell theres a cam in it. But when you listen to the exhaust note you hear the cam. It sounds healthy but not radical. My car is a M6. I can cruise at 1400rpm in 6th. Just dont expect alot of acceleration.

When moving forward from a stop, sometimes it likes to dip the RPMs down. If it catches me off guard it'll hesitate then take off.

Before you blame the tuning, i've had numberous logs and tuners look at it, and they all say the same thing, it's the overlap in the cam, not the tune.

I'm not unhappy with it, its just "tempermental".
