Default Thinking of 228/232 108lsa 588/573 cam, what icl?

It seems to me that the intake becomes the limiting factor on power peaks after so much cam is put in a car. Also, these cars with heads and monster cams with narrow lsas seem to be putting down excellent numbers. I looked at Matt Gs cam with more duration on a 110lsa and he is making 457/415 rwtq through a 4" mufflex and 12 bolt with 4.56s. He is also running 10.85 at 125.xx at a 3400 pound raceweight.

The question now becomes what intake centerline. An icl of 108 will open the intake valve at the same time as my current cam but will hold it open an additional four degrees longer. Also, there would be an increase of 8 degrees of overlap for some stupid torque and hp. Maybe I should try a 110icl. What do you guys think.

I'm posative I can get this thing to idle. There are bigger cams out there with more overlap idleing just fine, although they go with wider lobes and more duration.

What do ya think. Obviously it won't have a smooth idle.

Since you got good results with a 224 and don't mind a little risk, why not go for 232 on the intake side? You could probably see a big gain with that.

My cam has more duration (compared to your proposed cam) on both intake and exhaust it is ground on a 105 ICL and with a 108 LSA, it is rather ballsy idles at 1050 in park and 950 orso in drive...sounds like it means business too.
Not a car that you would pop granny in tho.
The narrow LSA helps keep the power in a useable rev range and makes the power band narrower.
It make peak torque @ 4800 rpm and Peak Power @ 6000 rpm, shifts are @ 6800 rpm.
I think the tuning for my motor was made easier by doing it on an engine dyno tho'

Go on and do it.

I'd go with 108° ICL (straight up -0- advance/retard), or maybe a 106° ICL(2° advanced).

V8 Ute, what kind of power and track numbers are putting down with that cam. I imagine that if I went with a 232/232 xer/xe lobed cam I would have to have the pistons flycut and I do not want to do that as the heads will be staying on the car for right now (when I put my cam in I dropped a lifter and I don't want to have to go through that again).

Also, where is your hp peak. You can p.m. me if you like.

Questions I ask myself to determine ICL....
1) What is your static compression ratio?
2) Do you want more compression?

If you have a 'normal' compression ratio in my book I would advance it a couple of degrees to give you some cranking compression. Should yeild more HP. If you have high compression than install it straight up to bleed some off.
Normal: 10.5-11.3:1
High: 11.5+

Do you think I'll have issues with piston to valve contact putting two degrees advance into this cam with an xer intake lobe with 232 degrees or 228 degrees (obviously less of a chance with 228 degrees).

My heads are stock so the motor is around 10.1 to 1. However, my heads will not be stock sometime before christmas.

I spoke with Brent at TEA concerning almost this exact cam. That is when he brought up the idea of a STG III port on stock cubes. (he said 6L heads flowing around 330cfm)- I kicked this idea arouind for a while with a 232/232-.590"/590"-???CL/LSA (I called comp and they can grind this with either .575"- or .595" lobes- I can't remeber which; both were XER lobes)
Brent agreed that this would be an awesome combo with proper tuning.

Daily,

Do you have a link to your dyno graph with the present 224/224-.565/.565-112? I seem to remember you making some crazy torque around 3000 rpms! 370-380 ft.lbs.,right?

I think a lot of the guys would like to see how much torque can be had with just stock heads, Thanks!
