Default Just bought AFR 205's. Now what else do I need?

Good afternoon.

Finally got them AFR 205's ordered from BUYUNSPEED. I'm just wondering if everything that comes with the heads (springs, valves, ect..) will safely handle the cam I have.

The cam currently in the car is a Comp Custom grind cam (231 237 .589 .595 112LSA).

In the heads that are installed right now (stock), I know they currently have upgraded Comp valve springs (26918-16) and push rods (not sure what kind of pushrods). As far as the other parts (retainers, shims...ect) I have no idea what's in there.

I just want to know if I should leave the springs and other parts in the AFR 205s as they are and just install them, or should I transfer the 918 valve springs and any other parts from the the stock heads I'm currently using.

I'm sure I'll need a better fuel system. Will injectors do? or do I need to get a better fuel pump as well?

Also, what kind of gasket do you guys recommend for these heads?

The car made 373whp and 360trq with the current mods:

1999 Tran Am:

Hooker Full Exhaust
QTP E-Cutout
Comp "Custom" cam (231 237 .589 .595 112LSA)
Vigilante 3600 Stall
B&M Trans Cooler
Ls1 Underdrive pulley/Harmonic Balancer
Ls6 Intake
SLP LID

Thanks for the advice in advance.

If you ordered the afr heads assembled the springs that come on the 205s are more than sufficient for your setup, as far as your fuel system I left my stock fuel pump alone but, I did change the injectors to the 42lbers. I made some decent power with them(look in sig). Eveything else should be fine as long as your pushrods are chromemoly and not the stockers.

That cam is dancing just under the 0.600 rating of the standard spring AFR includes on the heads.

Ideally, I think you should upgrade to the #8019 springs.

When I ordered my latest cam from Tony at AFR, lift being slightly more that yours, Tony STRONGLY urged me to upgrade the springs at the same time.

I think you will need to get a pushrod checker as I belive the length will change; so plan on ordering new pushrods. Also depends on what head gasket you go with; a .054 vs. a .040 is .014 difference on the pushrod. I also agree the 8019 spring is a better upgrade for you vs. the ragged edge of the standard AFR springs.

I retract my previous statement about the springs, I only looked at your intake lobe not the exhaust, I think you should upgrade the springs to give you a little breathing room.

Won't the Comp 918 fit in the AFR 205?

Yes, but the guides are a different size so you may need different seats and the AFR valves are larger (i.e., heavier) and the 918's won't be enough spring in my opinion. Contact Tony, he can best guide you. You may be able to upgrade as the seats/retainers are the same for the 8019's. I have a set of AFR's waiting to go in too, they are gorgeous.

I don't see that on the site and 8019's are an option on the 205's. Shoot Tony a PM, he is the best one to help you.

I know they are an option. Something had to of changed on their site from the time the OP and I looked at it. I saw 8019 springs with the 1510 head in the heading when I looked. I wasn't imagining things.

Oh well, the OP needs to verify the springs either way.

That's crazy.
When I saw it yesterday, it said they came with the 8019's. It also said the same for the AFR 225's and now it doesn't.

I even sent them a message to confirm this last night, but I guess they figured they could make a few more bucks by including them with the regular springs and having people upgrade.

Tony is the best source of information on the heads and can best advise you on the valve springs.
