Use modeling clay. You can get it at any hobby shop.

Don't use playdoh - it is reslient and will not hold the compressed shape and will not show the actual PTV.

Also, I recommend the dial indicator method. It is much more accurate. I had a very hard time getting any type of precise measure using the clay method. I tried using different measuring instruments (micrometer and caliper) and could never get the type of precision that I was looking for. Just me $0.02.

Good luck.

yeah the clay method is not the way to go,use the dial indicator method, much more accurate. And personally easier in my opinion.

Edit, checked it and all I got was how to rig up the lifters and trays, I sent you a email...

Also is this the type of clay I could use? I want to check the ptv as many ways that I can.

There are 4 Hobby Lobby stores in OK City. Just pick the one that's close to you. They keep it and it's cheaper than ebay.

It was attached to the original e-mail. I stripped the photo's and re-sent it. If this doesn't work, I will upload and give you a link.

I checked PTVC in my engine by installing the heads w/o head gaskets and rolling the motor... It's not the science lab way to do it, but if it clears w/o gaskets, it should be good to go with a gasket.

Now thats something I would have a hard time doing, esp after dropping $1500+ in heads and the time to change them out
