LS1 Gone, new 408...what to call it>>
I also had an issue while puting the top end on the 408, one of the holes for the alternator was not there, I had to drill and tap.
If it's an aluminum LS2 block, call it a Gen IV.
I actually read an article explaining the differences between Gen III and IV engines last night. The differences are so minimal, I think it was foolish to call them two different animals. They're all LS_ based, they should have left it at that.

As the other have stated. You should call the engine based on what block was used. So.. Gen III w/AFR heads would work from me...

To me, it just comes down to its either a Gen III or Gen IV block.. don't start making up new Hybrid names and confussing everyone.
There were a few reversions of the old SBC.. from 265 to 400 cid.. but it still was called Gen I / SBC !
That didn't change till they had the LT1 Gen II, but many still called it a SBC.
my .02 cents

Agreed! Especially on the SBC/LT1 stuff. Who knows why they do things the way they do...
