German Castrol
#63
BC that is HIGHLY illegal. If it says made in Germany its the real stuff. Plus you can use the bottom stamp on the bottle to tell also.
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...&Number=718643Thats the FAQ on bobistheoilguy. It explains the bottom stamp and how to decode it.
Its totally different. My last 6 quarts had 4 that were goldish in color and 2 that were the old greenish tint. Talk about funky looking oil.

I just called castrol and there tech told me it did not matter if it said european formula or not 0-30 all has the same formula he said it did not matter were it was "formulated" , I said so why the different bottles,he said "that the GC that is still out on the will eventually go away and all you will se is 0-30 but it will be the same stuff" he said "the oil was formulated to cater to BMW and Mercedes and that type of consumer is not going to change there own oil so they had to change there marketing stagies".

The GC has to meet MUCH higher specs in Europe. The oil guidelines in the US are very very very vague. Hell a Group II base oil can be called a fully synthetic now.
That is a used oil analysis for the GC when it was brand new.
Went on a scavenging hunt to find this. This is from the ACTUAL US site.
Now this is from the GERMAN site.
The only thing I find different is the US brand meets the MB 229.1 requirement which IIRC is a less stringent requirement therefor requiring "worse" oil.
I posted on BITOG so we shall see.
Only problem with that is you end up paying $9.50 a quart for it.
Also it was posted by a pepboys employee that they now carry it as of Aug 1st. Suppose to have 12 quarts on the shelf.
Did a VOA (no TBN measured) with Blackstone on 5-08 with oil from a bottle with production code beginning with M07... which I believe means produced in 2007.
The following elements/properties were identified;
iron 1 ppm
silicon 6
sodium 6
calcium 1957
magnesium 618
phosphorus 933
zinc 1160
SUS at 210 F 66.3
cSts at 100 C 11.97
flashpoint 455 F
All other elements/properties were listed as nil or 0.
Blackstone comments: Nothing wrong with this oil and it has a strong viscosity for a 0w-30...in the range we often find for 10w-40s.

Good, then you by the American version and leave the German stuff on the shelf for the rest of us.

Also, I posted on BITOG and the thinking over there is its just a cookie cutter responce when asked about the European Formula 0W30. It IS a different formula but Castrol seems intent on hiding it.
Virgin UOAs have proved this.

hey i saw some guys posting about using different oil filters. i use a pf46 and mobil 1 10-30. what is the difference between the pf 46 and pf57, or any other filter for that reason?
