Yeah, for sure. I just ordered a set of Patriot gold springs for it, so I won't need to worry about spring problems again.

if the valve springs broke, couldnt there be a chance that the pistons could of been slapping the valves? just wondering.....

the way to check if it is the verter is to leave it in park and see if it make the noise...then throw it in gear and with the load on the trans and verter the noise will most likely go away...mine did that and i though it was the rod too sounded horrible...

mine was the damn powder coating on the tci flex plate all 5 bolts were hand loose...

The valve spring broke, but it's still holding the valve shut 100%. I never revved the engine up much above idle. I really doubt the valve hit the piston.

Im pretty sure knock is the noise that comes when pistons hit the valves..Pretty sure the damage has already been done

Actually, when the valve spring breaks, if it is still retaining the stem and locks, the piston will not hit the valve. Once the tension on the spring is released, it will expand - bringing and keeping the valve closed. If the valve is closed, the piston has no chance of hitting the valve.
Chances are really good that no other damage was endured from the broken spring.

I'm confused..Isnt the knock the noise that comes when the piston hits the valve?? I mean the way you described it, being loud and all..it didnt sound good..

I think the noise he heard was the space between the rocker and valve stem - way to much lash after the spring broke and compressed some.

I know this because I broke one of my valvesprings without bending a valve, my first thought when this happened to me was also rod bearing.

That's what it was, excessive lash, I think. I just did a compression test on that cylinder to be sure - 155 PSI. I'm positive that the piston didn't hit the valve.
