The double roller that I installed I had to clearance my timing cover and oil pump. The shims that they supply make the oil pump stick out. I didn't feel comfortable clearancing it anymore so I took it off and threw on a Cloyes hex a just timing chain and gear set.

I grinded mine down for a good hour and it still wasn't enough. I got pissed and took it off and got a single timing set. I'd say you already know why it cracked. You probably didn't have enough clearance when all the bolts were tightened, and the vibration caused it to crack or just the tightening of the bolts.

I put a Manley DB roller on and it came with spacers to clear the oil pump. I didn't have any clearance problems with the timing cover.

I used a rollmaster double roller and a Tsp ported ls6 oil pump with no problems. I hear the melling pump is thicker and you have to do some grinding to get it to fit. Check out this thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...hlight=melling

I have the melling also. The chain didnt clear the pump and the pump didn't clear the cover.

Did you swap the bolts in the front of the pump? Switch to a button head. That makes a world of difference. I had to grind, but not real bad.
