Wow, 10s of thousands of stock LS1 chains out there and only one failure? ...and 2 out of 3 failures were NOT the stock chain? Interesting.

In addition to knowing how many chains have broken, I would think you would need to know how many have changed a chain (possibly because of a H/C project), the breakout of which chains were used (e.g., stocker vs. Brand X), the reason the chain was changed, the mod list, and the resulting HP & tourque. Knowing how many chains have broken wihtout knowing anything about the potential population will not allow any meaningful conclusion to be drawn.

I am somewhat **** when it comes to analysis -- just trying to help...

I think you're dealing with minutia. I think those that changed chains for H/C projects will be well represented in this poll. The majority of the manufacturers I'm aware of are represented.

As far as HP/Torque levels at the time of failure are concerned, I'm not terribly interested in muddying the results with the extra complexity. The purpose of the poll isn't to determine the reason the chain was changed, only to identify the manufacturer of those that have failed. We can't drill down that deep until we first identify the failures. Once that data is collected, it can be evaluated and theorized from there.

Isn't the (i) SLP double chain and the (ii) RollMaster double chain the same unit?

My stock one broke....

BUT, that was when the whole bottom end ate itself, no doubt breaking the timing chain due to no fault of the chain...

Yes. But I'm not sure that's common knowledge, so rather than missing out on a reply becuase they person didn't know their chain was represented, I thought I'd just include them separately. Besides, once all the votes are in, we can do the the math.

ttt, I'd like to see the results with a few more people submitting their vote. I haven't broken mine yet, but I do only have 100 miles on it.

I'm surprised at the Rollmaster double breakage problem; i have one and it looked bullet-proof when I installed it a few months ago.... nice and cheap too!

I suppose we should do a separate poll to see if the broken Rollmaster doubles included the torrington bearings.....

I am also suprised by the RollMaster breaking. How do you break a double roller?

We need to know what kind of power these cars were making and some more factors, was it a missed shift or while racing or just driving ect?

I appreciate what you guys are trying to calculate with this data, but my real reason behind this poll was only to identify common failures, regardless of manufacturer.

Everyone is too caught up in this timing chain debate, and I was interested in showing that no matter what set you install, you're not untouchable.

..the results are somewhat missleading since there is no corresponding information about the number of Rollmaster doubles or other brand chains included in the survey...

I assume the Rollmaster double constitutes the vast majority of replacement chains since it is preceived as a quality piece and sells at a very affordable price...

Well, I did expect the numbers to be surprising, but I was expecting to see a few more stock chain failures than this.
