Default What do you guys think H/C OR C on 83kLS1

I'm looking at the Patriot H/C package (or others if you all have any suggestions) for my 98. It has 83k miles and strong oil pressure, also its not a DD just a fun car. I'm not looking to go too radical but I'm shooting for low low 12's high 11's with headers and a T/C. The reason why I'm asking is because I'll be putting on Headers,ORY, and the T/C by the end of the year and don't want to throw the H/C money into a motor that won't beable to support those mods. I'd rather just mess around with what I have and buy a low mile SS or C5. Any help or suggestions on which cam or heads or both would be helpful.

I have 82k on my 98. I haven't had any problems. If the motor had 150k it wouldn't matter. As long as it has good compression, good oil pressure, and doesn't burn any oil, I wouldn't see any reason not to.

Thats what I want to hear. My car doesn't burn a drop of oil (Mobil 1 5w-30) and oil pressure is great 60 psi on start up. I have no idea what compression is, but I'm gonna check it when I do the headers.

Just a tip, if I could do my headers over if you are getting pacesetters I'd coat them with some silver grill paint. That way it keeps the rust off and keeps it looking clean. Next time they come off they are gettin the treatment.

you need a converter somethin fierce. I'd be pissed if I did h/c and ran a 7.9 in the 1/8th.

Yup I'm going to go with pacesetters, either coated or painted. Are yours coated ? I always had painted and they always rusted no matter what I did, (hi-temp paint, wrappning them etc.)

They are coated, but a friend of mine has the coated and painted them with the grill paint and they are the same as they were when he installed them.

Go for it man. I build 100K+ mile motors all the time without ever touching the short block. LS1's are a lot more durable than some give them credit for as long as their maintained properly.

Do it, but replace the lifters and oil pump when you do.

don't really need heads to get you where you want to be, but it would definitely be alot nicer if you had them. my buddy's 02 z28 cam(23x/23x. 585/595. ?LSA), convertor(3600 i think) and shift kit, true duals and a gomer tune ran 11.7@116 on slicks and skinnies and he managed an 11.5 running it in texas...where there must be nitrous in the air since everyone in TX is faster

Put the H/C in. The car will be fine!!!!!

You will stomp the majority of cars you come across....you will be proud...... a cure for cancer will be found..............and the stars will all align!!!!

Seriously, mod as much as you want......as long as the previous issues brought up....are not issues

You will be fine just change the timing chain to an ls2 and go with a ported ls6 oil pump
