Default Which heads for 228r cam? LS6 or 5.3L?

I was pretty set on the torquer v2 cam but i changed my mind to the 228r cause ive seen some good numbers from it. But im not sure which heads would be better. 2.5 LS6 Heads or 2.5 5.3l heads? I have a 01 Z28 A4 with 3.73 gears and a catback, but when the heads and cam go in it will have a YankSS3600 stall and a F.A.S.T set-up and longtubes. It will be a almost daily driver, most likely every other day. Also it will later have a 100 shot on it. Which heads would be best?

I am going with the Stage 2.5 5.3 heads on mine along with a Fast 92 setup. I talked to John at Texas Speed and he recommended the 5.3 heads. My car made 400rwhp cam only. I am hoping for 430-440rwhp after the heads, Fast 92, and u/d pulley. I hope to have everything ordered by the end of the week. I will post results once I get everything installed and retuned.

As long as you're sure you won't want boost at a later point, go with the 5.3's. You'll get the extra compression.

I chose the LS6 heads to keep the stock compression in case I decide to boost later. Swapping in a blower cam will be cheaper than buying new heads.

im looking at some 5.3 heads and LS6 heads too. i hear that 5.3 yields better compression. im not sure what that actually does for performance. but i always thought LS6 heads made more power though.

The smaller combustion chambers in the 5.3l is why they bump up compression and i guess better air flow in the ls6 is why they are thought to make more power?

I am a big fan of the LS6 heads but the 5.3's will probably net you more power due to more velocity and compression.

A friend of mine has the stg 2 5.3 heads with a similar cam like yours and puts down well over 400 to the wheel with a stock LS1 intake.

I have a 228/232 cam, stock H/I and i was thinking of going with stage 2 243 (ls6) heads.. I have been hearing some good things about them..

how many CCs are the ls6 heads and 5.3 heads? I need to bump up my DCR to get more TQ.

my car cam only (same cam above) put down 405/375.. SAE was 415/378

The 228R camshaft works really well with the PRC Stage 2.5 5.3l heads. We have a set amount of milling we can do for that camshaft that has worked really well for us. I have a complete engine dyno testing results sheet with the PRC Stage 2.5 5.3l heads & 228R Camshaft. Give us a call Monday & we can fax you dyno results from that exact combo with unmilled heads.

I was thinking going with LS6 ( Ported Stage 2 243 Heads)... How well would those go with my cam? 228/232 .588/.595 110+4? I need to get my DCR to 8.5 - 8.7????

Or would the 5.3 heads be good for my application?
