I went with a light one and want to get even more weight off. The first time you drive it, youll have to get used to it, but I DD an AL flywheel and spec 4 for 3 years.

BTW, wrong section

a lighter flywheel will allow the engine to rev faster due to less rotating mass. it will also transfer more hp to the wheels since there is less parasitic loss.

however with the lighter weight you also have less inertia, so when taking off from a stop it requires more revs to keep from bogging.

generally they say lighter flywheels are better for AutoX and road racing. while the heavier ones are better for Drag racing.

i daily drive my fidanza/spec 4 setup. its tricky at stops...some due to the solid clutch plate, some due to the light FW.

I love my Fidanza 12.5lb flywheel. I actually had a Mcleod flywheel before which was 28.8lbs, so I dropped over 16lbs off my rotational mass.

As for the comment that it isn't good for drag racing, I think it is simply a matter of adjusting your launch rpm and shifting. The one Tosto brother with the hugger orange SS said he used a lighter flywheel and commented that he liked it because it didn't shock the drivetrain and tires like the heavier flywheel did.

I went with Fidanza this time around (vs a SLP billet steel one previous) and have no problem DD it or taking off. I actually find it easier to drive.

I prefer the steel flywheels and don't think it is worth the usual added cost. But it's mostly a matter of opinion for a street car. Try out the lighter one and judge for yourself. If you don't like it then just go back later.

It's more of a bitch to park and run around town with a lighter flywheel.
