Default BIG 408 Cam Selection Help (Come in)

I am considering building a 408. What size cams are you guys using for a nice rough idle and good top end power.
Hope to use 235TFS heads and 1-7/8 headers and maybe fast 92/92 or vict. jr. This is a daily driven car but I want to go big on the cam.

This motor will be built around 9.0 compression as it will be a FI motor later.(Yes I will change the cam at that point)

N/A 408 stuff use 248-252/254-258 .600+ 113 range.
FI 408 stuff use 232-236/242-246 .590+ 114+ range.

with those heads you can run plenty of cam...something like that 248/252 should be ok. talk to one of the sponsors such as 99blancoss. he works with HKE and they build tons of 408 and can certainly get you the cam you are looking for.

Isnt a trex cam like in the 220's? Thats way too small IMO, 248/25x would be the smallest id go, the 257/266 sounds interestig....

I have a 232/234 in my 346 and i want it to act bigger with 62 more CI

Stroker, my bad its a TR cam as well there are multiple specs you can get-
244/248 - .612/.615 - 112 lsa
248/254 - .615/.623 - 110 lsa
248/254 - .615/.623 - 112 lsa

OR

TSP Texas Giant Camshaft
248/254, .611"/.613" Camshaft With Your Choice of Lobe Seperation.

Those might be a bit mild in a 408, but should provide stump pulling torque.

248/254 113 is where I think you should be. That "GIANT" cam works really well, and it's proven.

I am running a custom cam sale right now where you can spec out your cam any way you want.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/983272-brand-new-custom-cam-sale-355-shipped.html

also might want to ask Patrick G his opinion as he specs out cams

This sounds huge! What do all you other guys think of something this big? The lift is huge also wow.
I heard a tsp giant cam in person, and it sounds pretty nice. I may want to step up into the 25x/25x range. But this one is really big.
I at this point wont go smaller than 248/254.

Don't be afraid. I run a 272/280 @ 104 with 750 lift in a 327 ci motor.... ;-)

But my 408 has a 236/244, lol!!

Im not really sure why folks continue to post questions like this. The best thing anyone can do when they are building a motor is have a cam specd for there application. This is the only way you will get the most out of what you are looking for. Congrates on the build and good luck..
