Default Coils relocation - how long of wires is too long?

Hello guys,

I am in the process of a hybrid swap with an '04 GTO LS1 engine.

I relocated the coils to the firewall on the inside side as so:

I measure the #1 & #2 cylinder wires to be around 34". Is that too long?

I searched all the threads and didn't find any specific info on this, but it looks like a few people have mounted them just as far away mine, but I do not want to just assume that its O.K.

BTW the 'kit' cost me $9.76 in materials from Menard's (Home Depot equivalent) and about $.25 in roll cage base plate material.. Some nice cheapo $10 mounts, I like it.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Should be fine. Gen 1 plug wires are almost always that long.

Some of the wires for my kit are longer than that and I haven't measured any loss on them. I use MSD 8.5mm Superconductor wire only though.

Thank you for the quick info, I really appreciate it!!

99blancoSS, I will most likely be contacting you to make some plug wires for the car. What is the best way to measure the wire length so they come out proper?

If you dont have a chunk of wire, use a piece of thick cotton rope (is about the same). Go from the tip of the coil to the tip of the plug electrode. Thicker rope is better than thiner as the bends can take 1/16" to 1/4" of the actual length. I can also send you a piece of wire to use as well. (45" piece and you can measure from it. Use tape to make a mark and then lay it out and measure) Your choice of boots as well 90*,45* or 180* on the coil and 90* or 180* (multi angle on the plug end)

You, sir, have a very keen eye!

It's a GFORCE GF4A dog box out of a car NASCAR road course car. Its always been my dream to shift without a clutch! lol

A couple pics I figured I would share of my rewiring job, since I am just about to finish-finish it. I come from the Nissan/Toyota side of things and this LS1 engine harness is soooo exceedingly simple, I love it!

pretty sweet setup you've got there. just take your longest plug wire and put a multimeter on it and check it's resistance. i guarantee you're going to have a pretty minimal loss compared to stock, if it's even noticeable. you should be just fine, just run decent wires.
