Default Header primaries too large for my set up?

Well I put out a thread to find someone selling 1 7/8" headers for my engine that I am buiding (mild cammed LS2 bottom end, LS3 top end). For some reason I can only find Kooks 1 7/8" stepped to 2" headers for any good deals. I know they are overkill, but will it hurt my set up much to run these headers?

1 7/8-2 is way to big. Even 1 7/8 is little big for your set up. 1 3/4 would just fine.

Wrong. If his setup is half decent he's knocking on 500rwhp which would be choking on any less than a 1-7/8.

Well I really want stainless steel, and I've got a few offers on Kooks SS 1 7/8" x 2" headers for ~700 + shipping. But I might just have to save some money and get the TSP 1 7/8" ceramic coated headers for 479.99.

dude, you're engine is an air pump. The better you can get air in and out, the more power you will make. 1 7/8" x 2" headers will be FINE. Bolt them up to a good set of heads and you'll be in business

He could make more power with larger headers with the cost of everything down low. Put 1 7/8-2 on your car and it will be a pig. Go right ahead.

I'd go for it. 1 3/4 is way too small. It's debatable if those are even big enough for bolt on ls1's (imho they are), let alone a head/cammed ls2. If it were me, I'd get the stepped. It leaves you with plenty of room to grow (say if you wanted to put a decent set of heads on or maybe a little bit of nitrous).

The question is not 1 3/4" vs 1 7/8"...I already was going to get 1 7/8"...the question is whether 1 7/8" stepped to 2" is too large.

Bigger will be better in this case!!! Go for the 1 7/8" and never look back! On the engine dyno, we've seen them pick-up nice power even on stock long-blocks from about 2000rpm on up to redline!!

You don't absolutely need the stepped header, although it will likely help your curves a bit on the rollers. Unless you're getting a STEAL on them, the 1 7/8" will take care of you perfectly!

if i could run 2in. headers in my car i would, it would give me incentive to build a bigger motor with better heads, turn more rpm, more n2o,
u can see where im going with this.
the basic 1 7/8 are fine.

Oh, i guess i misunderstood on that part. 1 7/8 stepped to 2 would really depend on the total project really. Fitment in your 97 would prob be another aspect to look at.
