Default LS1 to LS3

I have a Coupe Mustang with a LS1 in it and today I acquired an LS3. What is needed to make the swap happen?

I was told I will need a conversion box because of the reluctor wheels being different. Where can I get one at?

I have Wilson manifold fuel rails, will they work or do I have to get new rails?

I will need a new TB, I plan to stay drive by cable.

Is there anything else I may need?

What are some good performance gains for this motor? I know I'm going to put a cam in it. My headers are 1 7/8

I believe lingenfelter makes the 58tooth 4x to the 24tooth 1x converter box. unsure about the rails. Id just opt for a ls3 manifold and fuel rails and injectors. You can get the whole thing for under 300 bucks. And just sell your rails. And whatever size tb you need for the intake. I believe its a 90mm.

yep, 90mm.. the rails for ls1 style intakes doesnt work with ls3s because they use the new short injectors (ev1 vs ev6), stocks are like 42# so that may cover your fuel needs (i stayed stock with my ls2 402 build).. youll need that ligenfelter box, as well as a conversion (katech) for the map/knock sensors i believe. your headers wont choke it, although it would gain from 2" primaries a little. the new ls3 heads are one of the big pricepoints for the switch, so that cam swap will be your best friend.

A few more questions. I already ordered the Lingenfelter conversions box that goes from a 24 reluctor wheel to a 58.

What MAP sensor do I need? Is it the same one as the 2010 Vette since that is the intake I'm using?

Now I'm needing to get the Cam Sensor. I will be running the 2010 Corvette timing cover and need to know what sensor to get. Below is the double roller timing chain set I bought.:
JP Performance 4X ajustable double roller timing set. You need this if you want a aftermarket 3 bolt cam with 58x reluctor wheel.

keep your LS1 MAP. The LS3 MAP scaling differs from the LS1/LS2, making it difficult to tune. Add an o-ring to make up the difference in seal sizes (LS3 MAP is larger), and fab up a hold-down bracket to bolt it down to the intake (not difficult at all). some light reading on the subject.

Do NOT use that Lingenfelter box, it's an absolute pile of **** based on personal experience. Lingenfelter's customer service wasn't much better. Spend the time/money to swap the reluctor wheel, unless you don't mind stalling when it gets hot.

From what I have read #001 was the box that had the issues. I bought #002 version so we will see.

I hope it works out for you, truly. I can tell you that 3 OTHER cars in the shop that did my swap, using the same box, had the exact issue. It was bothersome, to say the least, but the worst was the real lack of service from LPE on this.

I tried the sleeve and even relocating the box to the cabin of the car, to no avail. I've heard 002 did not fix it, but I have no direct knowledge of this one. I hope that is indeed the case. Good luck, the LS3 is an incredible motor.

DO NOT USE THAT DOUBLE ROLLER WITH THE LS3 TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. It WILL rub on the tensioner and you WILL have metal debris in your oil.

OH and +1 on NOT using the converter box, spend the time and money and get the right reluctor wheel installed on the crank.

The tensioner will not work with the double roller chain.

Since its on a hybrid anyway. I would just swap the new computor and harness to go with your motor. GM went to a 58 tooth for a reason, I would think it would runn better and definatly have one less modual to fail

and that reason would be for AFM/DOD. Which he isn't going to run, but i say go for the 58x controller it would be more simple since he already has autometer gauges anyway .
