Default Coolant Air Bleed System LS3 Heads

I'm sure this is a dumb question, cause I can't find any info on it. But will someone please explain the coolant air bleed system on an LS3 motor for me. I can't figure out where the hose goes on the front of the motor. From the heads to the radiator? Thanks

Here is my thread of an aftermarket system I just installed. It should help you see how it works and explains what they do. Now I will clarify mine is ls1 setup and the airbleeds actually bolt to the block not the heads.

Your blocks bolt to the heads too not to the block.

I guess I'm just confused because the radiator in my silverado doesn't have a port that the air bleed system would plug into. So does the port on the radiator suck water and air from the heads back to the radiator???

Yes thats the way the stock systems work on the cars. You can buy plugs from GM and install them. This deletes the bleeds,Or run the hose to the overfill bottle and install a fitting on it. The bleeds do seem to work on keeping down hot spots in the heads. I'm running the stock Ls1 hard lines on my 92 block and heads with the car rad.

I have seen drilling bosses at the top of some water pump necks. Is this a place that can be drilled and tapped for a place for the coolant air bleed system to run back to?

thats one option, but if you can get the steam lines to go from the heads into your coolant reservoir/radiator/etc (somewhere that itll be cooled before being recirculated) that would be best. F bodies use the radiator inlet, as stated. vettes use a reservoir.

jags that run (jtr) makes a fitting you can put in you radiator hose that has an npt fitting to act as an inlet if you dont want to drill/tap the tstat housing

i would look into where the trucks run those lines stock (assuming this is for the silverado).

Wegner Motorsports sells the water line adapters if you want to fab-up your own setup.
