Will you be able to test for drone levels as well ? (Before & after).
The kooks bullets were loud but drone was tolerable. This will be a great help moving forward.

Good luck !

I see the volume as tolerable and the drone as terrible.

So I'll take readings inside the car with some videos too.

One reason I liked the idea of the Dynomax. So I'll probably clamp it in vs. weld it in so I can remove.

Yep. It's louder down lower and a little further back. Close to 110db. But I wanted a baseline that would be close to where I was holding it in the car.

It is about 77 inside the car. So it's around 25db quieter... so that means when it's droning at 95db, it's 120db outside the car. And mind you, that's still not WOT. That's like 50mph driving down the street at 1700RPM.

It's obnoxiously loud.

And no, got to wait out this tropical storm thing. I'm afraid my house is going to flood from all the rain and the incoming 8-12" of rain on top.

Wow. Those sound levels are obnoxious. Def looking forward to your dynomax results. Not that I'm in the market for this exhaust, pockets aren't deep enough to feel comfortable doing so. Eyeballing the Speed Engineering true dual setup which from a sound suppression stand point is probably very similar.

I've said it before, whoever decided that f-bodies should have a single exhaust with a crossflow muffler should be chemically and then one week physically and publicly castrated. Theyve been doing it since the second gen IIRC.

Very good info Jake. Useful to many of us I'm sure. Thanks.

Speed Eng could swap the Dynomax bullets or whatever they are using for these ultraflos and it wouldn't change the cost much. And they'd fit. And it'd make the same power.

Any updates? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the oval Magnaflows this week. I don't even want to drive mine, its annoyingly loud.

I haven't got around to doing it yet. I was going to take it across town to a guy to cut them off, use an expander, and make it so I can swap them out in the future myself. But then my alternator let go. Just got that replaced. Waiting on a longer Gatorback belt now. So it'll be after the 4th it looks like. But I'm hopeful the SS version of the UltraFlos (supposedly quieter than even the regular ultraflos) will bring it down a good 10db at idle or cruising but keep it near banshee scream at WOT.

I modified my KOOKS bullets adding about 125% extra chamber volume and filled them with SS wool. It did help some but not as much as I expected.
Maybe using different sound deadening materials like mineral wool would help.

I took my car to my exhaust guy today (FINALLY) so he could look at it. And he told me the 6" case on the Ultraflos weren't going to work.

He recommended I do Magnaflow 4x9 and install where the cats would go and use the bullets as resonators on the back (which is a terrible spot for drone for mufflers - need exhaust pipe after it to cut it down).

I don't know if that'd work either since Magnaflow's smallest case there is still 14" long.

So, I'm going to work on the system this weekend myself and install the Ultraflos and then move the bullets back up to where the cats are.

Also, we'd need a custom muffler like this... with more packing. What ends up being the problem is the chamber volume is still too small. We need a longer muffler or a bigger case muffler. Neither of which would fit.

I don't think there's enough room where the cats would go. I know there's not on mine, but my system was made in early 2013. I think they made a revision after that. I bought their green cats. They finally showed up after 2 months. If it's still too loud I'm going to switch out the bullets. I'll be damned if I use kooks though. Their customer service is **** poor. Especially with how much they charge for their products.

Jake: you can always revert to the Kooks oval that we spoke about ? I would venture a guess that these will fit fine. If I was able to shoehorn my Magnaflow ovals in there, the kooks will certainly fit.

alternatively: My Magnaflows sound fantastic, perform well & are reasonably priced. Give it try. For me it was a last resort & turned out to have a far better sound than I anticipated. I should have started & finished with these.

Yeah, I just hate to return these mufflers without trying them.

The Magnaflows are 4" or 5" wide right? So I don't know why a 6" wouldn't work. I think the dude was just not in the mood to fight it.

I'm going to try this weekend to install them. Was hoping to just pay someone. Everything else on the car I've done myself and sometimes I just don't want to mess with it.
