Default Replacement starter for LS3 swapped 4th gen

I’m attempting to replace the starter on my ls3 swapped t/a. Wanted to use the LS3 starter for a 2010+ Camaro, but that isn’t working out. As described in this thread in post 28 it may or may not fit with the t56 bell housing.

2010 camaro SS LS3 starter for swaps

For me, It interferes with the bell housing here.

It clearly does not seat

I would prefer not to remove material to make it fit, even though some who have had fitment issues have taken that route and gotten it to work.

I previously had been running a truck starter because it uses two long bolts, rather than the LS1’s original “one short/one long” aka “mount cracker” configuration.

The truck starter got cooked, and I was looking for something that had better fitment. What starters are you guys running?

Like others and yourself, I had the same issue. Did lots of research and did not find any other starters that would fit AND made for an ls3.

I have a QuickTime bh, after I ground off material I had a hole, which I welded up and painted. I don’t feel the integrity of the bh was compromised. Obviously, welding alumn might not be as accessible as welding steel.

sorry, modifications often need modifications.

Yeah, I ended up just getting an AC Delco 6.0L (ACDelco 336-1932A - 08 silverado 1500) truck starter and slightly grinding down the tab on the LS3 block.

Truck starter on my 434. I prefer the equal length bolts.

I run a Quality-Built 6492SN... has the two long bolts. I think it's about $100. I've been running it for about 5 years. Works fine.

It's essentially a new truck type starter.

I work for the company that makes the "AC Delco" starter in the first picture. A lot goes into that piece that I'm probably not allowed to post, as I should keep my work and hobby separate. Very high quality starter motor unit that is Japanese engineered (not Chinese) and made in Mason, Ohio. I have not followed all the posts in this thread, but if you can get that one to fit and work, it will serve you well. Can't say the same about the pictured generic labeled one made in Malaysia (which was re-labeled), which I think you said is burnt up. From the label appearing heat-shrunk, this seems the case.

If the engine has a starting issue, that should be fixed regardless, as you'll eventually be able to toast any starter. We also make the square body "LS" ignition coils.

Offshore Cheepo from eBay, doesn’t have enclosed end for the pinion, just open. Works real well, equal length bolts, was advertised as a high torque, cost was less than $100, bought another for my other car because it works well. Downside? It’s metal flake red but it’s hidden.

I like the truck style starters also.... you can find them on Amazon using that part number and with a $30 rebate they are $92!

Of note:
Fbody LS1 T56 bellhousing will accept truck and Fbody starters.... won't work with GTO starter or LS3
