Newbie Question: LS3

Newbie Question: LS3 Okay guys....I run a program for kids that allows them to work on vehicles over the summer and this year is a Nova SS with what I was told is the following:
- LS3/403
- New valves
- 218/228 @ .50 lift cam
- Edlebrock Intake
- New Holley 650 Carb
I have been working on newer engines...not old skool as they say. I want to know what this engine is capable of as it stands now. First impressions....when I pounce on the pedal, it cuts out and then goes.
Also....what of the following should I install:
- fuel management
- Spark
- headers
- exhaust
Looking for your valuable input so these kids to work.

Wait a second... Are you sure this is the same LS family that we're talking about? You know, there was the old LS-6 454 cid engine and engines like that. I know you can carb LSx engines, but you said this isn't a "newer model motor."
Plus, you say it went into a Nova SS... That would have been a project in 1997!!! That was the LS1's first year.
Maybe I'm way off base here.
EDIT: Hell no. This isn't an LSx engine if it went into that car in 1997. Not unless it was Jay Leno's car. Take a picture.

Looking through all of the history documents....it says that the engine work was done in 1993. It clearly states in the second owners documents that it is an LS3 402 engine...and yes, this is a 1969 Nova SS that was originally a 396/375 car.
So again, this is an OLDER LS motor and is carburated...not FI.

I would take this line of questions to the appropriate forum (i.e., one for SBC). Just look down the list till you see the right one.
Is the Olds motor called an LS3? I had a Olds 403, two of 'em actually.

Yeah chevy had the LS back in the late 60s early 70s the LS3 BBC was a 402 in 1970,71, and 72. 1970 it was a 400 Ci with 330 HP@4,800 and 410 Torque @3200 in the Chevelle. 1971 it was a 402 Ci with 300 HP@4,800 and 400 torque@ 3200 in the Chevelle, Monte Carlo and Camaro. 1972 it was a 402 Ci with 240 HP @4400 and 345 Torque @3200 in the Chevelle, Monte Carlo and Camaro.

It is a .030 over 396 (BBC). Great engine. Tweak on the carb...sounds like accelerator pump needs a touch of attention. Make sure the vac secondarys are not screwy or if it has mechanicals, ya might need to back off the secondary tip in point.
