Big Cubes = American Racing Headers!
Guys I once again want to give everyone a heads up about what we've been up too at A.R. Headers. Some of you may have heard that we now offer our LS1 S/S header line up to 2" with either 3-1/2" or 4" collectors. With that we also have custom Y-pipes with final outlet sizes of 3", 3-1/2" or 4". We now have a dedicated section in our website, americanracingheaders.com that provides an illustation and text about these systems. If you have plans on building something radical, we will be able to accomodate you. Also we now have specific flanges for L92 cylinder head packages and D-port flanges for both step 1-7/8" X 2" and straight 2" primaries. 99BlancoSS, It sounds like our 1-7/8" X 2" step header will morethan do the trick. You'll need our 3-1/2" merge collectors as well but I need to know more about you engine upgrades and other info to size up everything just right. Nick... I have a L92 408 setup w/ Hooker Super Competition 1 7/8 Longtubes on my Y2K WS6.... at the time I was on a budget and needed an inexpensive setup. What is the difference in your headers and these matching to my heads? Also, do you have any dyno charts from a header swap like this to speak of?

Wizeass, We have specific flanges made for the L92 cylinder heads but you only really need them when running 1-3/4" primaries. For 1-7/8" primaries you can run round port headers. The difference between ARH headers and Hookers are very significant. Our headers are routed completely different providing excellent fit and are made using 304 S/S (no need for ceramic coatings). Second, our headers all have merge collectors which can be custom sized for special applications. Our flanges are 3/8" thick and primaries are tig welded and hand ported for smooth unobstructed flow. Y-pipe uses a true 2 into 1 merge and can also be custom sized. There's much more but I think you and I need to go over your combo by phone to figure out the best set-up. Firehawk, Good question. Are you using the stock K member? Assuming the steering shaft routing is the same then I can't imagine our headers not working. Please give me some more details. Thanks.

BMR k-member with Madman rack. Steering shaft angle is much tighter to the primaries then a stock set-up. Everyone I know personally has had to modify the #1 primary or make custom steering shaft.Not meaning your headers specifically, but f-body headers in general.

Firehawk, I'm going to call BMR ASAP and get the low down on this. As we speak our 2" headers are on their personal race car and I'm told they fit beautifully. Problem is I'm not sure which rack they're using but I will find out. Thanks for the heads up.

This is also a concern that I am having as well. I am looking at going to a burkhart chassis K member and their manual rack setup with a motorplate, so there will be lots of room due to no motor mounts being in the way, but the clearance around their rack, and specificially the steering shaft are a concern. Our shop car had an issue with the #1 primary and had to have it reworked on a large set of headers (not ARH) that they had on the car, hence my concern.

Well folks the concensus with regards to clearance with a manual rack is (and this is coming from BMR directly) that should clear without an issue. Although I won't just simply sell something to someone with 100% confirming this, I'm pretty confident we're ok.
I'm told that BMR is releasing a new manual rack soon that will clear our headers by a mile.

Hey Nick,
That is the main reason I have not sold my 1 7/8th Kooks to go to your 2" headers.
I have a BMR K member and a madman manual rack and we had to bend in the #1 primary to get the headers to fit.
It still knocks a bit from the manual rack hitting the primary whenever I turn real sharply at slow speeds.
Let us know what you find out.

I probably don't want to know, but what's the difference in cost from buying a standard set of say 1 7/8 stepped to 2 inch with a 3/5 inch collector to having one made to fit a car, if I were to drop the car off? With the parts I'm looking at adding I am sure the old 1 3/4 qtp headers will fit I have now, but going to a bigger size, I am sure will get me in the realm of something custom made.
fwiw 402, 13.5 to 1 compression and 100 to 150 hp of nitrous, I am sure that going bigger will help, car makes 480rw with a nitrous tune thru a 5400 converter and a th400 no lockup. I think n/a it may benefit, I'm sure on the jug it will certainly help. I'm on the fence about what to do with the whole situation, I know I want to go bigger with the headers and I am sure it will help, it's just a matter of how much will it help and is it worth the $ vs. leaving what I have already on there. Car is race only if it matters.

I assure you I am not a troll, but have never had the opportunity to dyno the same larger disp. engine with 1 3/4" with tune then immediately 1 7/8" with tune. There are lots of rumors about torque and people say the are happy they changed from this to that but it would be wonderful to pick a larger motor and do an A<>B test.
There was a long thread on the C6 Z06 forum about brand X headers new 1 7/8-2" step headers and several people tried them with confusing (at best) results. When do the larger or step headers net results?
I think I like my 1 7/8" with 3" mids but I am often asked "should I go 1 7/8" or even bigger with my new motor (we build them) and I can't make an educated recommendation.
