Default Just received my shortblock, but a problem

Take a look at this picture and tell me what you think. Is this a send it back to the builder to get it taken care of thing or is this something that some block fill or one of those "harder than steel" but really isn't fillers would take care of? This lines up right underneath the head gasket where the fire ring is but is completely covered front and back. It would really suck to box it back up and send it back and wait again, etc but it would suck even more to go through all the work reinstalling everything and then have it leak.

If it bothers you, I would send those pictures to the company that you bought it from and let them decide. Get something in writing to CYA yourself, that way if something does happen you are covered. Pictures say a lot.

Maybe it's just the pictures, but it doesn't even look like the block was decked. Besides the nick you're pointing out, there are other small imperfections on the surface in those pictures; all in the near vicinity of the water jackets by the cylinder. In all honesty it may be nothing, but if it were mine I would have the deck redone just enough to remove those nicks.

That's the first thing I thought. Certainly doesn't look freshly decked and if it IS, it's not the best RA for running Cometics if you're considering that route.

I don't like it, I'd have that decked on both sides ever so slightly to clean that up, it's either that, or take a chance once it's all together.. better to fix it now IMO.

Can't hurt to send the pics and get a final ok from the builder.
Maybe the builder won't like it so much either and have you send it back or it'll be fine-either way the builder should be informed prior to installing the motor, IMO.

It's all already been sent to the builder before I even made this post and he thought that it would be OK and that it wouldn't cause any issues. Actually seemed to be the consensus with several other builders as well. I am going to go ahead with it. I am using GM 5 layer gaskets so it should take up some of the much smaller imperfections in the deck.
