Default Anyone Else See The New World Iron Motown II LS Block??

I just did a quick search and did not see anything here yet. I saw the new block for the first time and it looks pretty cool. You can use the old school SBC rotating parts and the LS top end parts to make a killer set up. You can use an old school distributor setup, old school timing cover options, old scholl oil pan options, old school engine mounts and transmissions without the hybrid costs usually involved.

It is iron but is lighter the the standard LS iron blocks by quite a bit and could go to 441ci. Nice to have another alternative.

Yeah I saw it at SEMA. Neat idea, gives a lot of options for the distributor crowd.

If you want to build a Carb/distributor engine it can be cost effective. With the availability of used gen 1 parts as well as L92 heads you have a nice package.

I was dissapointed that they didn't make it use the LSX 6 bolt head bolt pattern.

Yeah, I missed it at SEMA somehow and though it was odd I could not find anything posted if it was out there publically. Even though it is only made for standard 4 bolt applications, it still fits the bill for maybe 90-95% of LS builds out there HP wise.

Here are a couple pics someone else took at SEMA.

I've had a hard time finding any more info on this block.

Are the deck heights the same? ...will LS intakes fit or will special intakes be required?

When is it supposed to be out? Did they mention a price?

It's a GREAT idea, but it will take awhile for people to catch on and want to buy one imo.

It does use any standard or aftermarket LS intake. The cam is based on a SBC with the lobes moved to match the LS ports. The cam also drives the distributor just like any old school small block.

I think availability is soon, but should know more this week at PRI. They say it should run in the same area price wise as their current Motown SBC blocks which would be in the $2200 area.

You could still run coil packas if you wanted as well as a normal LS plastic intake. You would just need to run a FAST or similar engine management package due to not having the reluctor wheel anymore.

I think this is more pointed towards folks wanting to use a standard distributor and remove the coils for a cleaner look. Pretty much old school costs in the bottom end with the best latest tech for the heads and intake short of an SB2.2.

Definitely not for everyone, but pretty cool stuff.

i saw those pics as well.
for people wanting to haul ***, or for hot rodders wanting the look it might do well.
dont think it will go over well with the normal bolt on heads/cam crowd.
its a toss up.
props to them for going out of the way and getting creative.
