I will definitely keep this thread updated. As soon as Billy gives me a call to let me know all parts are laid out I will go and take pictures of all the parts, and start posting images here. I can't wait!

sounds like spending unnecessary money on the crank to me.

edit after reading the rest of the thread, looks like it would be used crank or something. Im always scared of used stuff or too good deal, end up with wierd rod journals end up spend a bunch of money on wierd rods, or other oddness.

MOST definitely. If the stuff wasn't brand new, I wouldn't touch it. I've learned my lesson.

Default Update

The parts came in last week, but Billy didn't like the measurements on the pistons so we decided that we should step back and run some Wiseco pistons. They're the 4.125" bore multi-fit valve pocket 8cc pistons and ran the off-the-shelf 4.125" version to prevent going to a custom set and retain compression at 11.6:1. They don't have a 4.155" -8cc piston for my setup. BTW, the crank is nice and LIGHT and the Oliver rods weigh in right at 600g

Enjoy.

Quick question, the AC pulley for my ATI damper is a smaller diameter then the main hub pulley. I have the "76" or 10% UD for F-body, and I find it strange that the AC Pulley was even more underdriven than the main hub pulley. Is this correct or did I get a mispackaged piece?

My AC pulley on my ATI damper is smaller than the main drive pulley. I think it is correct.

Awesome looking build man, I hope things turn out like it should. I hate seeing bad things happen to good people. Sorry to hear about the 427 but hopefully this engine will put the bad memories to rest. I still haven't finished putting my car back together...

Thanks for the heads up about the damper, I'm glad everything is coming together.

I will continually update this thread as the build progresses. The motor is being blue-printed and built by Billy Briggs of Briggs Performance local here in Detroit. He was the lead engine builder at W2W. Mr. Briggs has built some of the top LS motors in the country including Tom Kempf's monster turbo motor. On top of that, he is a really AWESOME guy to talk to and deal with. Thanks to everyone who recommended him.

As many of you know from my last thread my old 427 threw a rod and demolished my entire motor, so I'm not looking back. Its a really big relief to know that this motor will LAST, compared to my last motor which had so many problems.

My last cam was a 242/256 (X-er/off the books "Renegade" lobes) and was not an easy task to tune, so I'm hoping this new cam that I spec'd will have much better street manners than my old since overlap drops from 23 to 12.5, and IVC is right at 48.5 so low end torque should be optimized on these LS7 heads. Power should be similar as my old setup, but I do understand I will have more parasitic loss due to the heavier rotating assembly, but the power will be made up by the increase in compression and cubes.

Share your thoughts!
Extremely nice build. Lots of top quality parts going into this engine and should serve you very well. I noticed that you pointed out some machine work to improve the LSX blocks oiling. What machining was needed for inproved oiling?

He does some special machining to the back of the cam retainer plate to oil the bearing on the back of the timing gear, and some other special machining for main bearing oiling that he keeps to himself haha.

I'm very excited for this build, but man is that block heavy!

That's good to hear that he does that! Jesel recommends that be done to the back of the cam retainer plate, or they can do it too. Really bad wear back there is actually pretty common.
