Here is something that I want to hear some discussion on. It seems like there are alot of people out there now that seem to be capable of hitting 500rwhp out of a N/A 346 and it drives just fine. Yet there are people here building up 418 and 427's and they only hit 550rwhp what the hell is up with that? Why does it seem some people are spending alot of cash on a stroker build and it barely makes more hp then a 346? If I was spending all of that money on a stroker I would want it to well out perform the 346 I just ditched not by 50rwhp...

Am I missing something is it very common for 427 to hit 650rwhp N/A because it doesn't seem like it...

rant/question

thanks for the help guys.
lil 346 is going to be down in torque.
larger inch motor is going to make more power throughout the rpm range over the 346, which will be peaky, IMO.

yes and like was said...the 500 rwhp 346's are not the rule

460 rwhp is more realistic for a 346. just like 550 rwhp is more realistic for 427. sure, both have made more but on avg...

so on a 416 ls3, what do you think you would give up power/torque wise between ported ls3 heads/ported ls3 intake vs CNC TFS 235's with ported Fast 92???

on a side note, doesnt look like the lsxr102 is worth the coin over a ported ls3 stocker, but thats a whole other can of worms.

SCTITAN- The 102mm fast intake did no gain at all on my l92 402ci. The tfs heads should gain 20hp more hp and alot more tq over the ported ls3 head. The tfs heads are a better design and has much better valosity then a stock ported head. Now,is the price diff worth it to you.

I have an ls7 and ls3...While modding the **** out of both of them I frequently ask myself that question...With all the money I have and spend on my cars...Holy **** what an ls1 I could build!!Like I always say, the ls1 is the new 5.0...Cheap as **** to mod(compatitively speaking) and make a **** load of power..And when it breaks fix it...still cheaper! I miss my c5 and I will buy another ls1....

Man this is an old thread. I don't know. I've seen some crazy midlift numbers from ported ls3 heads and the mast ls3 12* heads make great power. For me I'd probably go the ls3 route.

We've done engine dyno testing on 418s with both the PRC L92 heads & the PRC 237 heads. The cathedral PRC head made a few more peak hp comprared to the L92 head, but it made a good bit power than the square port head in the lower rpm!

I remember that thread but those were un ported stock l92 heads that were only milled. Add a set of fully ported heads with a good valve job and then compare. A good ported set of gm castings will normally gain 30 or so rwhp and an aftermarket 12* set will gain even more 40+ rwhp. That would change a lot up and still would be cheaper than the afr heads and fast intake.

Quick Reply: power or et diff in L92's and TFS 235's?
