Which would you go with? An LS3 stroked to 427 or an LS7
I have always wanted to own a car with the magical number 427 badged on it's hood.
I have seen C5's that have a LS2 stroked to 427, I think I saw a LS3 stroked to 427 and I know the LS7 is basically 427 cubed.
I want to go naturally aspirated.
Where is the best bang for my buck? I want reliability, but I also want the ability to have something under foot that may surprise my fellow Vetters.
So do I buy a C5 with a 427 stroker of just suck it up and buy a C6 ZO6, which will have to be like an 2006 since money is an object...........

The C6Z comes with some things the C5Z didn't. Larger wheels and brakes, diff cooler, etc. If that matters it may be a better start point.
If you go for the C5 I wouldn't limit myself to 427, but thats your call.
The cheapest of the three you listed would probably be the LS3 with a 4.1 stroke crank, but I would opt for a larger bore, either resleeved block or LS7.

We offer our customers several different options to get to 427cid. The LS7 with the bigger bore would probably be the best option thanks to the bigger bore. That being said the LS3 with extra stroke is a hard to beat for bang for the buck.

the big bore 427's generally make more hp due to the bigger bore allowing the heads to flow better.
the small bore 427's will make more tq due to the longer stroke.
I personally like the big bore engines myself-the shorter stroke gives a better pin height in the piston

Thanks Shawn........I would have thought the larger bore would have made more torque. I'm grateful for your input. I'm also looking for longevity in this engine build as well. Speaking of longevity, at my age, I think this will be my last engine here in this lifetime. Pensions and retirement savings seem to go a lot faster the older one gets.

Shawn has my car right now and it Darton sleeving my LS2 block to 4.125 bore. We're using the 4.0 inch crank from my 403. When I talked when I talked with a couple builders invluding Shawn and ED, they said they preferred the sleeved LS2 block over the LS7 for strength. I know you can run a 4.1 crank in an LS3 block but the piston support at BDC becomes an issue. The Darton sleeves are longer than the stockers for more piston support in addition to being much stronger. I expect this engine to make good power and last a long time.
