Default Why is the 2008 LS3 and 2007 L92 harmonic Balancer's different?.

Hi everyone,

I ran into a little problem today with the 2008 LS3 and 2007 L92 Harmonic Balancers.
The 2008 LS3 harmonic balancer has a small notch or grove at the tip that goes in the crank for another seal there and the 2007 Cadilac Escalade L92 harmonic balancer dosen't. WHY?
I know they are offset by 1 1/2 inches. I took some picture for you guys to see and let me know why or what is that seal for on the LS3.

Or does the L92 Balancer come with a seal too that I don't have.

just in case you guys wanted to know I'm installing the L92 Truck accessories and A/C on a LS3 engine using the LS3 waterpump with 1 1/2 inch spacers
I cant use the LS3 Accessories because the A/C Compressor touches the A-arms.
an the truck A/C Compressor does not touch at all.
This is the Seal I'm talking about.

Well, one is a truck and one is a Corvette. Low profile vs higher profile accessory drive/pump/balancer.

The "seal" if I have been informed correctly is a diamond embedded anti rotation washer to stop/help stop the Corvette balancer from moving on the crank. It goes between the balancer and the spocket and bites into each. Seal is simply to keep the oil on the inside. (maybe someone on here knows better than that. certainly an odd explanation, but possibly quite true.)

They are around $20 list last I checked, so there must be diamond in there

Does the L92 balancer use a seal too.
I need to use the L92 balancer.

No it does not need/use the anti rotation shim/washer/seal. GM probably never had movement problems with the different design of the truck balancer (also used on GTO's.)

Thanks for the heads up.

Would you happen to know if the truck balancer uses a seal like the LS3 balancer has.

I just wanna make sure its ok, sorry if I'm asking too many questions.

it's just that I want to make sure because the LS3 balancer had a seal and the L92 truck balancer didn't

Now I can order the underdrive truck balancer pulley and the overdrive alternater pulley.

anyone else have more to say before I go order the pulley's.

Put it this way, the seal goes with the balancer. i.e. a Corvette LS2 had it IIRC, a GTO LS2 did not.

So the 2010 camaro has the same damper as the truck damper?

If it is then I can use a camaro waterpump that has the low water hose on the driver side. Hmmmm Will be great for v8 swaps on a S10 blazer.

Whileas I have not done it, I don't see any reason as to why that wouldn't work perfectly.

Yeayyy I found my answer with proof

2008 LS3 engine has part 233

I see a harmonic damper seal for the LS3 damper but no seal for the L92 amper

2007 L92 engine doesn't have part 233
