Default How to identify LS3 valves?

How do I visually identify LS3 valves as opposed to L92 valves? It's getting close to swap-meet season and I want to be prepared.

I' m thinking that they have some pink paint dots on them. I had some and sold them awhile back. The best way to tell is buy the weight if they are used. The exhausts are the same.

The weight isn't really going to help me if I'm looking at fully assembled heads... and of course, if the heads are used, there probably won't be a pink dot.

There's really no way to identify them visually?

I would just bring a spring compressor with you when shopping and pull one valve to look at so you can be sure you are getting a head with hollow valves.
The LS3 valve is a three piece design, and you can easily see the line where the hollow tube is welded in between the valve head and the tip.

what pics would you be referring to? I don't see any pics of valves in your LS2 album?

Another thing to look for when the LS3's are installed is the stem height. The intakes will be .020 higher than the exhaust. So if you look at the valves in a row fashion it'll be up,down,up,down, etc.

How to identify LS3 valves?-ls3-l-l92-r-intake-valves.jpg

LS3 left and L92 right

The finish of the valve is different. It is actually quite obvious.

If they are used you won't be able to tell the difference. They won't be clean like that. Weighing them is best. The best bet is to buy new ones they are cheap enough.

I heard that the LS3 valves were lighter than the L92 valves. Interesting to see how much the weight difference is. Also interesting seeing the different finish on the intake valves.
