Cost - you could build a 582 low deck BBC for a lot less $$ and probably make a lot more power. Step to a tall deck and you can easily get 632.

Yeah it will weigh more and be a tight fit but if you want to go big and have the $$ to burn - why stop at 482?

For me, a 427 Superdeck 1 would be a perfect street motor - just don't have the cash now to put it together.

Have to do it every once in a while for different reasons but it has nothing to do with ERL. Their work is very nice as always.

Most people simply don't check any of this which is also one of the reasons you see these phantom spun cam bearings.
Whoops miss understanding.

But you do have to make sure it's a sizing problem and not a "cocked" installed cam bearing.

How much cam bearing clearance do you like to see? How much do you think is too much?
Sometimes they actually have too much like .006! I like to see about .002-.003.

Also many cams get bent during shipping and as you said the cam bearings can be in there a little cocked or have burrs from the installation tool.

I think Chevy range is like .001-.006 but we don't run them that big if we can help it.

Can someone clarify the "issues" with the 1st gen blocks and why you wouldn't use it for a stroker build, is this just the superdeck build? I've actually had some builders say the 1st gen blocks are the strongest because of the solid mains.....thanks.

FWIW, I'll add...... ERL communications leave alot to be desired. Multiple email and phone messages, no returns.

We are sorry for any lack of communication on our part. We were shut down for a week for the Holidays and felt like we had got caught up on everything but unfortunately we may have missed a couple and if you are one, I'm very sorry.
You can send me an email or call us at 812-945-3434 or 812-948-0011 and that should get you through. Again, sorry for any trouble.

Same here, called, called again, drove up there, was told email was best, sent email, nothing.

I sent two tall deck RHS blocks elsewhere to get machined.

If you have a donor block they are not that unreasonable Jeff. I think their prices have actually gone down a lil bit. At one point they were so expensive that an aftermarket block was actually cheaper overall so it was hard to sell them for us but they have all worked very well.

I would like to provide them an ls2 block and do a 427ci.

Sell my forged short block Ls7, have you assemble it with good pieces.

Something like you sold Nick.

On the website it shows a ls6 block is able to be dry sleeved, but I thought it had to be ls2 and up blocks for this? If you have a early ls6 block (2 short head studs per side) wht can you do with it?

ERL just won't work with the LS1 blocks that have the long & short head bolts. If you have a later LS1 or LS6 that has all short head bolts like the LS2 then they will work with it. I needed to get a LS2 block because mine, an 03 block, had the older style head bolts.

Somehow my gut told me it was going to be about the different length head studs. Sucks that when my 383 is done it's just going to be a boat anchor.
