Hey Bob,

That cam is a bit on the big side for an LS3. A year or so ago I did a test for a story in GM High Tech Magazine. Caleb Newman wrote the story and I did the testing.

Even though we required the cams to be "streetable" a few slipped us cams that were a bit wild. Take a look at the article as it also talks about engine vacuum. Of course as you know more vacuum means a milder or more docile cam. While the Lunati and the Livernois cams made the most power the cam that impressed me with the best average Horsepower AND Torque was the Lingenfleter GT-11 Cam.

Here is a link to the story.

Tks Robin. Neat article! 50 minutes to swap a cam? Wanna do one for me?

Given the size of the cam, and the fact that I can't easily drive the car prior to making a buying decision, I'll likely pass. Really want a black, low-mileage, 1LT, basically stock 08/09 anyway.

That said...the 2012 Boss 302 is mighty tempting!

Its a large cam, but in my eyes thats a great car to get for that reason.. probly wont have to worry about wanting an upgrade for it anytime soon. If you want to mod the car then this will save you some steps. I run an MS4 and it drives fine on the street, I could care less if someone thinks its to loud, I have never had a ticket for a loud car yet and frankly if you like it, get it checked out by a shop and pick it up. good luck

That cam spec is retarded. Definitely replace it.
Its about the worst spec Ive seen for an LS3. I bet you wont find any competent tuner recommend it!

You probably saw it but there is a nice 2009 for sale on the corvette forum for $33,000. Only thing is it has 3lt/ls option package.

Hi Bill. Could you provide a link, please? I know of a few 09s, but none at that price. Thanks!

While on that subject....have found a handful of new 2010 black (which is my first choice) 1LT M6 Vette's within several hours drive of me. Best deal so far is $41,588 (includes all rebates - $44,588 w/o the rebate but with 0% for 72 months). Brand new, no miles. Very, very tempting!

I was just going to say your better off passing on that car for a variety of reasons, but it seems you already made the same conclusions. Good luck to you finding the vette you want.

Whoever put that cam in there has no idea how to cam those heads. Perhaps even less than no idea. I'd be very concerned about any other work they did.

Bob, I knew i recognized your name. I followed your progress with the Mustang over on the Corral a few years ago.

Wouldn't you really rather have a new Shelby? Now thats sure to get me booted out of here. haha

I was mistaken on the LT3 but it still seems like a great car. I was kind of interested but thought it's not too practical at the moment.

Ya, saw that one.

I'm actually looking at a couple of options right now. First is a stock 08 1LT w/Z51, Dual Mode Exhaust, and transparent roof. ~7k miles, one owner. $33,900. Second is a couple of places that have brand new 2010 1LT, no option, M6 black Vette's at ~$41,800.

Decisions decisions...lol.

1sickC6....yes.

Bob
I use to race the open comp class and my friend Moby Smith was in factory stock with you. I have a 08 corvette full bolt on's and LG G6X3 cam. You will definetly like a corvette.

Ah ok, I know Moby!

How do you like the street manners of your Vette with that cam? Does it still get decent mileage on the highway? May I ask what kind of power its putting down? My eventual intent would be exhaust, intake, and cam. Nothing real radical, but power at about the level of a stock Z06.

Thanks!
Bob

I bought that cam a year ago and my builder wouldnt even install it bc ptv was waayyyy to close...There are also a couple of people on the forum that have wrecked their ls3's with that cam shaft. If you install it you are going to need to fly cut....Its a bad *** cam tho, but i wouldnt risk it...
