Default Thoughts on L92 heads on a stock cube LS2

Just wondering what you guys thing about putting a set of milled L92 heads on a LS2 engine.

If I did it I would mill them to keep compression the same.

just wondering if anyone has done it and what kind of power gains were made

and if they will make more power vs a set of 243 cnc ported heads

It really boils down to personal preference. The Ls3/L92 stuff can be very budget friendly. The Ls3 intake is better than the LS6 as well. The had part is going to be getting the compression higher than stock. PTV might also be an issue because of the much bigger valves.

I was thinking that too i want to run a close to 600 lift cam, I may just stick with the ls6 heads and ls2 intake setup

lift has nothing to do with P to V clearance, it is all about overlap, as that is when the piston is closest to the valves. The tighter the LSA, the tighter the PtoV

PTV actually has to with valve events, ramp rates, and LSA. But I agree that max lift has ZERO to do with PTV. When you at max lift the piston is a mile away from the piston.

I run L92/LS3 heads on my 6.0L as well. Works great! The one thing you need to realize is that airflow throught the engine is what makes or breaks power. Compression is much less important only a gain of about 3% per point. With my 68cc L92/LS3 heads and true flatop pistons I have right around 10.5:1.

When you mill L92 heads you run into PTV clearance issues much faster becuase of the large intake valve. If I could do it over again I wouldnt have milled .030" off, and would run a larger cam. The larger cam would have made way more power at 10:1 compression than my smaller cam with 10.5:1.

I'm not a huge fan of the l92 heads on a small bore like the LS2, especially when you look at how many really good cathedral heads are out there. I'd much rather run something like a PRC 227 head with the smaller chambers. Power would be far better in my opinion thanks to the smaller chamber awesome flow with a smaller port. You could run your existing rockers & intake configuration as well!

We're doing a aftermarket LS3 style head that will have smaller runner options for the smaller bore guys. The factory l92 style heads just leave a lot to be desired...

82, don't mean to hijack....but Sweets10, do you think you'd say the same with an LQ4 piston instead of the flat-tops?

I have ls2 I built with l92s milled .030 with ls3 intake and 224 cam. It is a great setup...my pistons had reliefs.
