Default LS7 cam in early ls?

Will the LS7 cam work in the early ls motors (ls1, 5.3, LQ4,LQ9)?

you can but you have to use a ls2 timing chain and get a new timing chain cover and relocate the cam position sensor to the front of the motor. Also you might have to get a new timing gear because some ls7 cams are single bolt vs a 3 bolt ls1 cam gear. IMO its not worth the hassle

Well the reason im asking is, my original plan was the do a LQ4 single turbo in my s10. And i know the 02-04 z06 cam is a great cam for that setup with its wide duration split (I:204 @.050/E:218@.050) .550 lift and its wide lsa (117.5)
But i see that the LS7 cam has more duration @.050 (I:211 @.050/E:230 @.050), more lift (.591) and wider lsa (121).
I have a feeling its going to be more trouble and expence that it worth in the long run, Im just see what peoples opinion would be on this.

For the cost of the ls7 cam, ls2 chain new timing cover and a new cam gear you could buy the correct cam with better specs then the ls7 for your application. IMO

Default LS7 cam

That's kinda what I figured. It was an idea at best. I think ill just stick with the z06 cam.

And what do you mean by a "cheater" disc0monkey?

LS9 cam is 3 bolt and almost the same specs as the LS7 cam. It can be bought new foe $100. Only reason LS7 cam shows more lift is the rocker ratio.

its just a blown up version of a LS6/7 cam. same manners and similar power curve. works with cars with the same restrictions as stock. TR makes the cam. EPS has their version too. on a LS1, its about as big as you can go without being noticeable by driving or listening. coincidentally this cam has been out way before the LS7 and is very similar, its always nice to see an aftermarket cam be complemented like that by a team of GM engineers. now one would say the LS7 has much better intake flow so its not comparable but, the exhaust the LS7 is coupled to is equally better.

at minimum i would go with a LPE GT2-3

Just put one (LS9 cam) in my '11 Camaro with 1500 miles. With fasterproms intake and T/B, VarRam intake, U/D pulley, Cat delete pipes, Edelbrock x-pipe, stock tune and put down 415rwhp on a mustang dyno. Needs a tune bad as it's 11.0-11.5 afr wot on the top end.
