is 75 psi oil pressure too high?
I just installed a dry sump oil system on my LS2 engine in my track car and running 5W30 oil it idles at 75psi oil pressure. Is there any problem with running that high oil pressure? I don't know what it will go to at high RPM as I was worried and didn't wind up the engine.Help

?!?!?! Um..... In my personnal experience max you should idle with is about 40 and 75 at about 6500 rpm. Is the pressure adjustable on the pump side or something? it'd be wise to drop some oil pressure before you wash a bearing.

Uh is that a bad thing ive had several sbc cars that would idle @ 60 to 70. havent had a high volume pump on a ls motor yet, but a dry sump is definitely high volume!

Consult your builder/supplier for recommended pressure. It sounds high to me but maybe they have set clearances to utilize it? Dunno man but i'd certainly be doing some follow up on it. 75psi at idel doesnt seem to come up often in many posts here that ive read... ore like 40 range and 65 at WOT

Mine will idle at 50 and run at 60 cruising when cold. 40 at idle and 50 cruising when warmed up.
My old SS had a High volume oil pump. Idled at 65 cold.
When warmed up it idled at 50 and went 60 cruising and 75 wot.
75 at idle seems a little high.

No arguing but I've seen plenty of SBC's not put together right and oil pressure too high wash out a bearing. But that's just me. What kinda oil filter are you running?

So, just what does a washed-out bearing look like? I'm just curious about how a lubricant can remove metal from a bearing.

I've just recently did a cam/headers on my '02 SS ls1 motor. While into the motor,I ported&shimmed the stock oil pump. Now I've got 60 psi at hot idle, climbs with revs.but I havent revd too high yet as it still needs a tune.My concern with the high pressure is that the oil wont carry enuf heat away from the bearings with the oil psi being so high and eventually burn a bearing.

My dry sump (LS7) was at 75-80psi cold... and once warm (that took 10-15 minutes of driving (14 quarts oil) it would be in the low 40's. I switched to Valvoline VR1 40W.
You should also add a heater element in your oil tank to preheat the oil prior to racing if you haven't already.
What dry sump are you running?
