I need to order a new engine for my 68 camaro. I cant decide whether I want the LSX 376 or the LS3. I like how the lsx has forged pistons but I dont like how it is orange (i can always paint it). I also like how I can add a FAST intake and my own rails and be over the 450hp they claim.
Any advantages/disadvantages over either one? You guys are more experienced at this stuff then me.
John

LSX = 6 blt ready for future or resale.
You might see if VaSPD or HKE can do a 402 long block with stg 2 wcch l92's at a price you can handle. WKMCD got about 500whp with a 234/240 xer and L76 intake. https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...b-c-d-e-f.html(See post #107 for dyno results)
I'd guess a stock crank would still pull 470hp but would be down about 50ftlbs compared to the 4" build.
A 3.8" build would be a mid priced option.
Much better tolerances, forged pistons, better rods/bolts are main advantage of custom.

i would of went for the regular ls3 but since i got my lsx 376 for a really good price, i went that way. i know the lsx376 can take some good abuse before parts start failing. Someone on this forum with a procharger and a cam swap is making almost 800rwhp on pump gas with that motor. Depends what you are looking for, if the weight bothers you.
here is a link to my setup, i am actually almost ready to start it, but don't have any current pics. https://ls1tech.com/forums/garage/19...6-bryan23.html

LSX setup is 120 lbs heavier than the aluminum LS3.
The Iron Block truck engines are 80lbs. heavier.
I asked a few sponsors about it and 1 sent me a link showing all the weights a while back.
Just thought I'd post the info I was given.
Also, IMHO I would go with the LS3 or order an LS3 Stroker from one of the sponsors like Texas Speed or SDPC. They sell many combos at different prices and they will be forged as well. So you'll actually benefit from The lighter weight Block (taking 120 lbs off the FRONT of the car, which would seem like 200+ lbs in terms of drag racing the car) all Forged internals to support more power without failure, A bigger stroke crankshaft (More torque throughout the entire powerband) to get the car moving, and about the same price as the LS3 but just add a few $'s with it. It would really be a better engine in the long run IMHO.
And fwiw, If it's going to be an NA setup or UP TO a 150 shot the 427 is the way to go. But if you want to add a power adder later... LS3 416 is the only way to go.![Winky](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_wink.gif)
Plus, I have talked with a few sponsors about the LSx Block, and there are lots of the New GM Blocks that need ALOT of work to be used. There are many of them with too many issues that will need addressed. Sean at Virginia Speed even posted somewhere he had to go thru 3 blocks to find 1 good 1 for a guy. So with that said, I'd look into something else. If you were looking for a Big CID Engine, I'd look into ERL, but your talking Big $ when it's all done! But you will get what you pay for.![Winky](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_wink.gif)
Good Luck
