Default LY6 vs LS3

How much power is left on the table with 1.1 points lower compression in the LY6 vs the LS3?

Can the heads be milled safely to bring up the compression?

Dont forget the difference in bore too. LY6 is 4.00 and the LS3 is 4.065 IIRC

not sure about the milling...but how much power do you need? My LY6 is sporting just LT headers, a Holley 750HP Street carb and GMPP d/p intake, dual springs w/titanium retainers, chromemoly p-rods, and Comp cam...making plenty of power.

Assuming the same cam, intake and externals, my guess is that an LS3 makes at the most 30-40 hp more than an LY6.

My LY6 made 65 less at the wheels through a 4L80e than a 2010 LS3 Camaro with a 6 speed. We had the same valvetrain upgrades, and very similar bolt ons. I think my transmission soaked up at least 25 more hp and the rest of the difference was the better pistons in the LS3, lighter valves and 3mm bigger throttle body, the later 2 probably being negligible.

I need to edit the above post. Actually, I made 53 less horsepower and 39 less lb/ft torque and that was also through and LY6 throttle body. Considering that I am running the 4L80e vs. the LS3/6 speed, the LY6 is a great value. I also have to credit the Vengeance Stage 2 cam.

If you'll read my post: 2008 LY6, L99 intake and injectors, TSP VVT-2 cam kit, 2 inch primary longtubes, truck TB, put down 431 hp and 409tq. I was and still triing to do this as cheaply as possible...Never have i said that there is more peak power to be had with VVT just more power when you want it, under the curve. Also I did the MPG on my car the other day over a 250 mile trip and it got 26 on the HWY I'm still impressed with the set up!!

I haven't seen a vvt cam with a torque curve better than my setup. Maybe I just got lucky. I'm definately not getting 26 mpg, though.
