Default 227/239 vs 231/236

Well I ordered a cam and some other supporting parts last week since my car is going to have the front end off of it for a week or so. The question is will this current cam TSP 231/236 644/613 111 LSA I have make the power of this milder cam below by TR?

Other Supporting Mods
JBA 1 1 7/8 SS Headers
LMR Intake
SLP Under Drive
Melling Oil Pump

Why are changing it, are you doing anything else? I like the 227 cam more, I am going to guess the 227 cam will out perform the TSP in the mid range.

I favor the tsp grind. I predict more power everywhere then the smaller grind. Man lift just never stops increasing on these ls motors....

that's what im saying.. except all the dyno's i see on 2010's with the 231/236 show 450-460 with 420-430... maybe TR numbers are fudged but i dont see why to give up more drivability if its not going to make more power oh I forgot i do want the sound still though

Dyno on tsp site shows 568hp 518 trq if u take 15% thats right there with the tr cam. There will always. B variances we dont know if they use any tricks on these dynos. I would say its hard to get the results the shops get. Found that out long ago with say the 224 cams on ls1s shops would put up dynos of just under 400 when most people would do 15 to 20 below that at best.

TR cam. Both cams are going to make very similar power. However I like the slightly lower lift of the tr cam. Replacing springs all the time is expensive!

In comparing the two it seems like TR is better in this case? About same power? Less lift is good on springs... Any other input? Need a cam for my L76 going in my Chevelle.

As with any more specific custom build with certain goals and priorities why not have a cam spec'd out for you. Off the shelf cams are great, and appeal to a wide variety of what people are looking for. But why settle when you could have it custom tailored to you. Its only $25+/- to have a cam spec'd and theres plenty of great people on here that could do that.

All of my research (read: Internet education) lead me to believe that the LS3 heads don't respond well to cams with more overlap, and the 111 LSA on the TSP cam scared me away. I do like the closer duration split on the TSP cam though. For my LS3-headed 402, I wound up going with a custom grind that was kind of a hybrid between those two cams, in the 227/231 range with a 114 LSA. The cam is a bit more mild than either of the two in this thread (especially considering it'll be in a 402), but it minimizes overlap, which should work well with the LS3 heads.
