LS2 402 vs. LS3 418
Ok so now that im confused as hell and wasnt really clear about what i want in my previous post I currently have an LS2 block and an 86 I-ROC. My goal is a 550-600 hp driven on the weekends raced about 40% of the time. I would like to know how to achieve this goal and which route would be easier/more cost efficient: Sticking with the LS2 or selling the block and going with the LS3 shortblock from Texas Speed. From some great advice im leaning towards LS3 im confused SOMEONE HELP!!!!!!!

I'd just go with selling your LS2 block and getting the LS3 short block from Texas Speed. No replacement for displacement and the LS3 heads would flow more air through that LS3 short block.

If ur LS2 is stroked already with the 402 package, I would stay with it. I am only saying that because u used the phrase best bang for the buck. If its just a LS2, then sell it and go with the LS3 shortblock. Hell get crazy and just get the LS7 short block with ur LS3 heads and watch them shine!! Think very carefully what u wat to do, it is going to cost money to build the shortblock to the long block. im assuming you dont have an LS engine to remove the other parts like the valley cover, oil pan, etc. If this is true, fork out the cash and buy the long block or the complete turn key engine packages some sponsors offer. Just my opinion, something to think about.

Alls i have is the LS2 block and port matched heads intake. I have someone to buy the oil pan from and stuff. Thinking about it it might just be easier to buy EVERYTHING from texas speed (except the tranny) and hopefully theyll package it up and hopefully give a good military discount right? I have a limit of $25gs for my total project but that includes a moser the LS conversion kit (3rd gen) and tranny.

what the OP didnt mention in this thread is that he has $25,000 to spend.
All he has is an ls2 block and some ls3 heads, he could easily sell those and recoupe most of his money and go with something much nicer.
ls3, stroked, forged, mast ls7 heads, fast intake, spec'd cam, he knocking down 600rwhp with driveability to boot

Launching!
Re-sleeve the LS2 block. Go with a 4.125 inch bore.
ERL
Have TSP or ERL (If you go ERL they'll build it then you send them your core) build you a short block with a 4" crank for a 427 or a 4.125 inch crank for a 441.
Port your LS3 heads or sell them and buy an aftermarket set.
You'll hit your number.
