Doing a cam swap...
Well I'm doing a cam swap for a buddy of mine, and he has DOD. I have most of the parts to do the swap as of now, but was looking at all of these DOD delete threads and got to thinking. Why is everyone using the LS2/3 valley covers? Why not use the Gen IV LY2 cover? The blocks are essentially the same as far as the oil towers. The LY2 isn't offered with DOD is it? Which would mean I can use that cover for a DOD delete kit? The LY2 cover is almost a hundred dollars cheaper than the LS2/3 covers.

The dod valley cover has all the oil solenoids n **** in it for the DOD. The regular ls3 style is what you need, doesnt have any of those solenoids and oil passages. If you dont use the correct valley cover you are likely to have oil pressure issues.

Yes, I totally understand that about the DOD valley covers. The LY2 4.8L does not have either DOD or VVT. It came around in 2007 and is still in production today. Since the 4.8l and 5.3l share a block... Why not buy the LY2 cover and save a hundred bucks or so?

Im not really sure. You could try comparing a picture and part numbers. As long as it all looks the same I dont see why not. Just make sure there wont be any unplugged or unblocked passages.
