Default TFS225 - pushrod length question

i'm coming up with a pushrod length that seems VERY long. everywhere i look, they advertise 7.500.

the combo is a ls2 with cnc tfs225 heads that are suposed to be milled to 61cc. yella terra 1.7 ratio rockers on top of .048 shims. stock ls2 gaskets. stock LS2 lifters that would come in a 2007 cts-v

i'm getting 18.3 turns on the comp adjustable to get zero lash...7.79 seems really long when the longest i can find off of the shelf is 7.500.

the cam is a howards...anyone know how the base circle of a howards compares to the stock base circle?

Not sure on the base circle. But the last set of tfs 225's with yell terra's I did used 7.75 pushrods.

i have a set of 7.75 laying around, but it would only give me .035 preload. is that enough? i've always shot for the .060 to .080 range.

the previous owner of these heads/rockers sold them because his motor ate a cam...wondering if a lifter turned because he wasnt using enough preload. looking at the pushrods, one side of the pushrod, the entire tip is polished chrome and the other side is black. with a small chrome ring around it. i'm not sure what gasket he was using an this is a total guess.

How old are the heads? I thought that a few years ago the TFS heads used a 7.800 pushrod but they redesigned them that changed the pushrod to 7.500.

I have 64cc tfs 235's, morel link-bar lifters and yella terra 1.7 with .090 shims. My push rod length came out to right around 7.50 without preload @zero lash with the comp cam length checker. With preload and overall length measurement my pushrods are gonna be 7.575 from Manton. I am stoked because my heads clear the 3/8ths!

Be sure to check for clearance with a 3/8" pushrod...at that length, I think you definitely want/need thicker than 5/16". I vaguely remember them clearing 3/8" on intake and 11/32" on exhaust?? Hopefully someone else will chime in that uses more of those heads though so you can be sure!

No, the checker is the same, because even the 3/8" pushrods most use will be 5/16" ball-end.

it's my lifters throwing me .05 off.

ls7 lifters in my engine would make my 7.75 pushrods fit perfect....gotta buy new pushrods now to fit these damn ls2 lifters i have.

what's cheaper? lifters or pushrods?

The LS7 lifter is the replacement for the LS2 lifter. Do you really think GM would have made so different that you had to replace the pushrods also? There might be some very slight height difference in the cup but not 50tho. But then again I could be wrong.
