Default Stroke a 5.3L to 359?

So, parts do exist to stroke a 5.3L by leaving the bore alone, but increasing the stroke to 4 inches. I know Wiseco/K1 has a set. This results in a displacement of 359. Now, I know all about the fact that the 5.3L can easily be bored/stroked to 383, and I know all about that stock used 6-liters are a great buy. But, I'm just kind of interested in the concept of this more unique configuration, especially for someone like me who doesn't need HP much above 400 (if at all) and who would prefer more torque at a lower rpm range.

Just curious if anyone has any experience or thoughts on what this setup might be like. Seems interesting to me to think about. Obviously there would be cheaper options out there, but lets put cost aside for the sake of discussion. I'd appreciate any input!

Oh, maybe I should point out - planning to use a carburetor manifold.

I see lots of people have looked at this thread but nobody has posted. I think most everybody prefers a bigger bore.

Yeah, the problem is that I don't want all the HP you'd get with that bigger bore plus the bigger stroke - going to a 383 would be too much. Need to keep this in a certain range. But, the 5.3 as it comes stock isn't quite enough.

You can get 400+ HP out of a 5.3 stock bore and stroke without too much trouble. Why are you set on stroking it if you don't have to to meet your power goal?

I thought stroking it would be the best way to bring the torque curve down to a lower rpm range. Are there other approaches to consider?

Cam selection has a lot to do with it. Have a cam spec'd to go with the combo you use.

Exactly. There are plenty of cams out there that are specificly for trucks and low end torque.
