Default 823 heads on gto

Idk if this has been covered before or not but I'm thinking of doing a 525 lift or so cam with 823 heads and a ls7 intake on my gto and I was wondering what kind of power gains I can see. Or if its even worth doing the head and intake swap or if I should just do a ls6 intake with the came and keep the heads.

Oh OK I was miss informed about that.. why would you say to stay with the cathedral? Are the power gains not worth the cost?

I agree. Stay cathedral port heads. I'd send your stock 243 heads to either AI -Advanced Inductions or TEA-Total Engine Airflow. Both are vendors to the right. ---->

823s can make great power with good drivability when teamed with the correct cam. Even with a 4.0 bore it has been proven time and time again.

If done right they can perform well, but theres better options.
Heres the thing with ls3 heads on small bores.

Your intake valve is shrouded by the cylinder wall, thats going to hurt your flow.
next is your limited ptv clearance. Unless you want to flycut this will limit how much you can mill and how large of a cam you can fit.

The cathedrals you can have a larger choice in cams, mill for max compression, and with good port work they will perform just as good and through smaller runners at that.

A friend of mine had his 67 camaro at the track this weekend. It a fresh build still has to work out the suspension. It is a ly6 with a small cam. 220 230 with 580 lift ran a 7.26 at 96mph. Not bad for a heavy car and small cam.

Just make sure you chose a proven cam if the ls3 head route is the way you go. Eps has nice stuff made for the 6.0 where you at least know it will fit and wont have to flycut

This is true if going with a normal build.

If you're wanting to get jiggy with a big *** cam or high compression it's going to be tough to achieve such things with the limitations of the LS3 head on a 4.000 bore.
